It’s a great day for digging up dahlia tubers! This task always looms after frost and it always feels great to complete it. The dahlias are a lot of work but as we all know their beauty is worth it!

Sometimes it takes the frost to create beauty the warmth cannot. Sadly this is the only one the bugs did not devour. I suppose it’s scarcity just makes it all the more admirable.

Bouquets for the Golf Coach and her senior girls! I’ve been holding on to the last of some of our blooms for a very special night with our girl. Our oldest is a senior this year. She’s a sport every season kind of girl and this season she played her last high school golf tournament. One of the things I love about growing flowers is when I get to design for special moments like this one.

Hello! We have some new friends here & it’s been a while since we’ve done one of these intros…. We are Tim & Lynn Windmeyer the florist & farmer duo of Homeplace Fields. We are both Missouri kids who wandered the world a bit in our 20s then found our way back home. Tim grew up on a farm a mile north of where we are now. This farm is the original home place of his maternal grandfather and has been part of the family since 1868.

After God’s leading, we decided to experiment with planting flowers on the farm to combine Tim’s agricultural background & my creative design background. We learn a little more every season & have enjoyed sharing what we grow with our community & beyond.

Since it’s October & the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, I want to share a bit of my more recent story….

We received shocking news of my own breast cancer diagnosis last December and the beginning of 2024 looked bleak. I almost skipped that mammogram because I had had 2 clear scans in the previous years. Feeling grateful today that I listened to that still small voice telling me to make it a priority. Please do not neglect this important screening. Catching it early is so important. I was one of the lucky ones & did not need chemo or radiation. After surgery & lots of prayer I am cancer free & learning to live life on tamoxifen.

Being able to be in the flowers & work this season had new meaning & I’m forever grateful!

We celebrated our daughter’s sweet 16 last night with a surprise murder mystery party at the gorgeous Wyeth Tootle mansion on Charles street. It was an “Enola Holmes” theme party…something this former costume designing momma had great fun with! The mansion has a built in murder mystery game perfect for any inquisitive group of 12 or more! The kids ran all over the mansion seeking clues and discovering the history of our little city. While the mystery ended up stumping all involved it was a great time of laughter, shrieks and thrills!
