Real life, with flowers.
This was just a lazy Sunday on a holiday weekend in the company of my family.

I often bring a bucket of flowers along when visiting my family and use whatever vessels are lying around my people's house. My sister, a mid-century modern lover and thrifter extraordinaire, has a beautifully curated and cozy home that includes this turquoise jar in the cupboard above the stove. So, naturally, I filled it.

I mean, why else would you have a jar if you didn't want it stuffed full of flowers?? I ask you.

Flowers were pretty much the only thing missing from the scene.
This was a great weekend.

Arranging wood for a day fire is pleasure on top of luxury, and looks really good on November (and, October, and December, and...)

I love the ritual of building a fire, contributing to the pleasure of the fire itself. Like making tea, or toast, or a bath, or a glass of wine, a painting, an arrangement, a workout session, or even coming home from work. The rituals in our movements, in our building of a moment, are so much fun.

Happy November, everyone. I'm loving fall.

Happy Solstice! 🌞

First day, officially, and longest day of Summer.
I love celebrating the seasonal solstice and equinoxes; as far as calendar events go, they're one thing that can be shared with all cultures, all humanity. That makes them especially special, in my book.

Happy Summer!

Art + Flowers + FREE + Now

Art in Bloom is back at the Minneapolis Institute of Art museum through Sunday.

(These images are screenshots from the artsmia.org website)

MuseFlora, unfortunately, did not participate this year due to calendar conflicts, but I did see some fantastic interpretations on my visit and always want to celebrate my fellow florists- both professional and amateur!

You- yes, YOU- could even make an arrangement next year.

Check it out if it’s your thing, and if you’re following MuseFlora it probably is. Parking gets thick, and there will be crowds. But, there will also be FRESH FLOWERS, art of every genre, and the burst of spring we’re all hoping would have arrived by now.
😉

Totally worth it.
Ask me for opinions or visit ArtsMIA.org for logistics and details.

Did I mention it’s FREE?

Cold, yes. But, quiet.
Snow-covered changes the light, the sky, the air, the energy. Gives us a little variety in our otherwise mundane routine.
Remember this as you’re shoveling this week. 😄

Happy daylight savings weekend!
It’s not long, now.

Red roses used to bore me.

I just needed to learn how to look at them differently.

My favorite view of a rose is looking down on them from above, so long stems be damned- I usually cut them somewhere around 4”-8” depending on the circumstances and tuck them down low, often piling them almost on top of each other to accentuate the lushness…lushness? Is that a word?…of petal upon petal upon petal.

These ones are called “Black Magic,” and their shadowy velvet undertones are sexy AF.
