We are thrilled to welcome Lindsey Thompson to the University of Northwestern – St. Paul faculty as our new adjunct instructor of oboe!

Lindsey brings a wealth of experience as both a performer and educator. She has performed with respected ensembles including the Minnesota Orchestra, Duluth-Superior Symphony, Colorado Symphony, and the Joffrey Ballet, and is a longtime member of the Pavia Wind Quintet. Her artistry has even been featured live on Minnesota Public Radio.

Alongside her vibrant performance career, Lindsey has dedicated herself to teaching the next generation of musicians—through university instruction, chamber music education, and private studio teaching.

Please join us in giving Lindsey a warm UNW welcome! We are excited for the passion, excellence, and creativity she will share with our students and community.

We are honored to welcome Dr. Liza Tkachenko to the University of Northwestern – St. Paul as a new adjunct faculty member, teaching Music in World Cultures this semester.

Dr. Tkachenko is a musicologist, ethnomusicologist, singer, songwriter, worship leader, and conductor with a remarkable global background. For 17 years, she taught music history, theory, and sacred music in Ukraine, while also leading choirs, orchestras, and church music ministries. She has published extensively on the motet genre and performed throughout Europe as part of a folklore ensemble.

Since moving to the United States in 2022, Dr. Tkachenko has continued to inspire others through worship leading, teaching, and her family’s music studio, Inspiration. Her passion for music, scholarship, and faith deeply enriches every community she serves.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Tkachenko to UNW! We look forward to the incredible gifts she will share with our students and the campus community.

Congratulations to Professor Timothy Sawyer, guest conductor of this year's Minnesota Music Educators Association All-State SATB Choir! Professor Sawyer worked with 112 of the best Minnesota high school singers during their camp this past week, culminating in a performance on August 1 and another that will take place at the annual MMEA convention in February. Professor Sawyer also shared his insights with Minnesota choral directors as part of the All-State Guest Conductors panel presentation for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA of Minnesota) Summer Dialogue conference.

Enjoyed a wonderful sunny Saturday afternoon of music from Mendelssohn's "Elijah" and Menotti's "The Telephone" performed by UNW alums Emma Davis ('23) and Peter Strand ('25), accompanied by Jodi (Hacquebord) Richert ('92) at Art House North, conceived and coached by voice faculty Carol Eikum and Doreen Hutchings. UNW Music was proud!

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Joshua Bauder will move into an expanded role as Lecturer of Music Theory & Composition (0.75) beginning in August. Dr. Bauder has served as an adjunct faculty member in music at Northwestern since 2017. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Music Composition from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in Music and Philosophy from the University of St. Thomas and his compositions have received performances by ensembles and soloists across the United States and abroad. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bauder!
