The Groom’s Cake

Modernly observed in the southeastern US, the tradition actually originated in Victorian England. A white-iced wedding cake was seen as too light for the groom, so he needed something denser, flavorful, and more masculine. Often the groom’s cake was not a cake at all, but either a cheesecake or chocolate pie that infused some liquor-soaked fruit. Superstition held that if the couple gave a slice to an unmarried woman, and she put it under her pillow, it would help her find a husband.

Nowadays, the bride typically does the majority of wedding planning, and the groom rarely injects any design details. The groom’s cake is commonly a surprise gift from the bride to her groom, and is shaped as something that represents a particular hobby or interest of his. It is served either at the Rehearsal Dinner or as a second option to the tiered cake during the Wedding Reception.

Jordan and Mark Standish – November 4, 2018

It doesn’t get any better than the Vinoy in downtown St. Petersburg. Even this couple knows it, which is why they came all the way from their home in Boston to get married at the premier resort. Their ceremony took place in the romantic Tea Garden, with a reception following in the private Sunset Ballroom, and featured the most delicious wedding cake I’ve had the pleasure of tasting! We pulled out all the stops with the top floral, DJ, and hair/makeup vendors in Tampa Bay. The bride and groom also had friends in high places to serve their photo, video, and officiant needs. We were honored to coordinate this truly exquisite event, from the live musicians, to the photobooth, to the toast rapped – yes rapped – by the Maid of Honor.

With only one day until New Years Eve, this wedding was as swanky and sophisticated as a dinner party with The Great Gatsby. From a ceremony interrupted by the raucous bray of a donkey, to a glitter-bomb bouquet toss, and a sparkler send-off that lit the night, Exquisite Events was honored to coordinate an event that was Gold, Glitz, and all things Glamorous in between. We wish the couple a future as shining as the day they started it together.

Bianca and Tito Clemente – December 1, 2018

An antique barn was transformed into a feast for the eyes when Bianca and Tito finally tied the knot. Sheer draping and greenery garland adorned the beams and ceiling, as gold Chiavari chairs and matching chargers caught the sunlight. Towering centerpieces held up in the December breeze, and a custom floral wall provided the backdrop for these two lovebirds and their three children. Exquisite Events was honored to coordinate the joining of this fun-loving family, and the beautiful photos speak for themselves.
