The amount of misinformation regarding solar in Oregon is killing me. If you don’t have too much shade on your roof, want to save tons of money, and care about the environment, please have your home quoted.
I don’t care if you quote with my company or another, just look into it.
Frustrating myths
*Solar is free:
Nothing is free. You redirect the money you send to the power company to make the payment on the system. If your roof has decent sunlight, it will be the same or less. This gives you a fixed energy payment with an endpoint, rather than a never-ending, always increasing power bill.
*Oregon doesn’t receive enough sunlight:
We do, trust me. It is easily calculated and highly accurate. Science is awesome. If we didn’t get enough light here, you wouldn’t be seeing massive solar farms being installed all over the state. Germany gets less sunlight than Oregon and has the most solar per capita than any other nation. The initial investment is heavily subsidized in Germany, just like Oregon.
*Solar is expensive:
The investment is more than the stupid ads online make it out to be, but it is less than your power bill. At the beginning of next year, PGE and Pacific power will have increased rates 15-20% in the last 2 years! Moving to a solar payment insulates you from rising energy rates, increasing carbon based taxes, and inflation.
Battery systems are being completely paid for by the feds:
No they aren’t. They are subsidized, but not enough to pencil out. Frankly, installing batteries in Oregon is financially and practically foolish. Average batteries run around 10-15k for the average home, and only last 10-15 years. That’s $60-100/month cost of ownership. In Oregon, we use the grid as a battery. Get a generator if you’re worried about losing power, and wait for the tech to improve and the prices to drop. Every major auto manufacturer is working on developing better batteries, and soon your home will be able to use your car battery as a back up power source. The Ford F150 Lightning already does this.
The reasons to go solar are the exact same reasons you bought your home. Fix payments, equity increase, and an end to payments in the future. Just redirect your PGE or Pacific Power money to invest in solar, it’s that simple. No down payment, no upfront costs, no fees…just swap your power bill for a solar payment to get all these benefits.
Interest rates are going up, the federal solar tax credit is the 30% now, and electric utility costs are rising faster than any other point in history. This is the best time in history to consider solar, and it’s not going to get better. The federal and state money being used to subsidize residential solar will be redirected to help electrify our energy grid. Residential solar is already booming.
If you claim to love the earth and want to save tens of thousands over time, look into it. Every home makes a massive difference.

I’m a solar consultant for the Salem Oregon and surrounding cities. Solar is for real. Don’t let the exaggerations and crazy marketing hype turn you away from considering going solar.
