It is the last night of DJ Frank’s Holiday Light Show. Thanks to the generosity of our Salinas community, the Food Bank for Monterey County barrel was brimming with 152 pounds of non-perishable food, $62 cash, and one 6-pack of non-alcoholic beer. I’m not sure if they will take the beer, but I will ask when we deliver it all tomorrow 😜

First time sharing hot cocoa with neighbors in the 10 years we’ve been doing DJ Frank’s Holiday Light Show—Not sure why we didn’t do this sooner. Great idea by my daughter, helping spread holiday cheer 3 days before Christmas!

Great news—MC Sean is back! After a nearly 5-month hospitalization, we are so happy he can be home for the holidays. If anyone can help support Sean’s family while he is still off work recovering, please click the link below.

These last couple weeks have been so hectic that I overlooked posting photos from the Mission Park Harvest Carnival! Most people who follow this page know that MC Sean usually helps me at school events by facilitating our tricycle races and hula hoop contests. We missed him at the carnival this year while he recovers from cancer, and so I really appreciate Jennifer Zanzot and Sara Perez stepping in to keep score and celebrate the students who won our contests. I could not have done it without them!

Back to back school carnivals on Thursday and Friday nights! First, Kammann Elementary’s Fall Festival, and then Monterey Park’s Trunk or Treat. Speed Racer Tricycle Races were a big hit at both schools. Special thanks to MC Tiffany (a.k.a. Mrs. Kellogg) for filling in for MC Sean. Could not have done it without her!

I try to keep politics to a minimum on this page, but I just want to take a brief moment to endorse Jennifer Zanzot and Sara Perez for the Salinas City Elementary School Board. Why trust the recommendation of the DJ at an elementary school? Well, I’m also a dad who’s had kids in the school district since 2003, and for the last 10 years, we have personally witnessed the systemic dysfunction in our school district and have been documenting it on Building a Better Board.

As Principal, Jennifer Zanzot showed the Mission Park community what effective leadership looks like. She spent her entire 38-year career with Salinas City Elementary School District. Sara Perez was a school finance professional for her entire 40-year career. She literally saved the school district from financial collapse 4 years ago, which the school board never credited her for. Now the school district is headed toward another deficit after squandering much of their savings on legal expenses.

Jennifer and Sara are exactly the kind of leaders our school board desperately needs. They are transparent, they are inclusive, and they truly care about my children and yours. I really want to be done building a better board, and I know we will have finally achieved that when Jennifer and Sara are elected. If you live in South Salinas, please vote for Sara Perez. If you live in West Salinas, please vote for Jennifer Zanzot. Thank you for your consideration.
