DJ Frank’s Dance Party—A special “on the road” event for families at YMCA Camp Sequoia! Moms and dads joined their kids in 3 rounds of song trivia (a.k.a., Name That Tune) with great prizes up for grabs, and then the dance floor opened up with all the best kids party music until the sun went down.

Consider YMCA Camp Sequoia for your family’s next summer vacation. For more information, contact Golden State YMCA at (559) 624-1110.

DJ Frank & MC Sean volunteering to drive KITT in the Watsonville 4th of July Parade! Lots of parents taking photos with their kids who are too young to know who KITT is— The high tech talking car of the future from the TV show Knight Rider. A few guys along the parade route recognized him and the Knight Rider theme playing as we drove by. Hopefully it brought back good childhood memories for people.

It’s still graduation season, which means a day away from my regular job so I can be out here supporting Spreckels School District! First, their 5th grade promotion party at Spreckels School, and then down the road to Buena Vista to run audio for their 8th grade promotion ceremony.

I think that’s a wrap for now! We’ll see what the next school year brings. Happy Summer!

6th grade promotion festivities for Mission Park students yesterday and today. Road trip to Toro Park for burgers, music, and water play—What a great idea for a hot day! And then today, I ran audio and played music for their promotion ceremony. It sure felt like a lot of students don’t want to leave their school.

Last Wednesday was the big Toro Park School Dance Festival where I was asked to provide music and sound. Always happy to feature them on my page because it’s such an important and wildly popular event for their school community. Here’s a short clip of the students tearing it up to Footloose from Kenny Loggins!

Here is video of our music trivia competition during Mission Park’s Family Picnic Day on May 2nd. Up for grabs to the winning team were two Hershey chocolate bars. However, because I may or may not have made the odds really good that Principal Zanzot would win, every student who participated received a Hershey bar. Watch all the way to the end to see the special prize that Ms. Zanzot was awarded to commemorate her last Family Picnic.

Call or text (831) 229-1802 if you’d like us to facilitate family-friendly games at your school’s next event!

Family Picnic Day on the back field of Mission Park School! Quickly becoming a biannual tradition every Spring and Fall. It was parents vs. students in our Speed Racer Tricycle Race. Then we debuted Spontaneous Song Trivia at Mission Park. Believe it or not, Team Z came in first place! It was Principal Zanzot’s last Family Picnic Day before retiring at the end of this school year.

Friday night Family Dance for K through 12 homeschool students! The 50s theme called for lots of oldies, but we threw some Bruno Mars and Olivia Rodrigo in the mix as the night went on. Hula hoops, musical chairs, and limbo contests with MC Sean were a huge hit. They did not want this night to end!

Last night was the “Boots & Beauties” Father-Daughter Dance at Buena Vista Middle School. I was unaware of the country theme beforehand, but my experience as a country music radio DJ allowed me to easily adjust the playlist. MC Sean and I also debuted a new game called Spontaneous Song Trivia, which is basically Name That Tune. First team to reach 7 points won Starbucks gift cards, which got a little competitive. Then lots of dancing to 90s jams from Dad’s generation. What a night!

Here’s something different. Today’s DJ job took me up north to Emeryville. I was asked to play upbeat pop music for the Katie Porter campaign, who is running for U.S. Senate. Just helping out some former colleagues in the labor movement. Lots of good people at NUHW!

DJ Frank & MC Sean are happy to welcome Prunedale Elementary School as our newest client! Here are a few scenes from their all inclusive Family Dance. I showed this to my own 6th grader and she said, “Why can’t we do this at our school?”

— My first DJ job out of high school in 1994 was at 93.5 The Mix in Salinas doing overnights and Sunday mornings. It was (in my opinion) the greatest Top 40 station that ever existed!

The format eventually changed, so I had to learn to like country music. They put me on middays at KAT Country 101.7, which later became 93.5 K-KAT after The Mix went off the air. When K-KAT died, they changed the format again to CD93 (modern rock music), which would later become 101.7 The Beach.

Although it was a lot of fun, the experience really solidified for me that there is zero job security in radio!

We are thankful for all the visitors and positive feedback to DJ Frank’s Holiday Light Show. However, the donation barrel for the Food Bank is still empty. Here are some donation ideas from the Feeding America website:

“Food banks accept dry and canned food donations. What does that mean? Basically, any food that is “shelf-stable” or nonperishable – you can keep it in your pantry and it won’t go bad. And remember, only donate food that hasn’t reached its “sell-by” date yet. Specifically, food banks often need items like:
* Peanut butter
* Canned soup
* Canned fruit
* Canned vegetables
* Canned stew
* Canned fish
* Canned beans
* Pasta (most prefer whole grain)
* Rice (most prefer brown rice)”
https://www.feedingamerica.org/hunger-blog/what-donate-food-bank-and-what-avoid

Next Costco or grocery store trip, please consider adding one of the above items to your cart, and then bring it to 718 Marion Avenue, Salinas for the Food Bank barrel. Our light show starts at 6pm (last show is at 9:45) every night through New Year’s Day. If you’re not in Salinas, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/kUwwALS3CAA?si=KP14C2eR9Ly4DxuG

Please share, and Happy Holidays!
