Walk through of 2022 Rowan Helping Ministries art
Walkthrough of the art! You'll be able to see the unsold pieces at CFA soon stay tuned! Here's a personal message from our Visual Artist in Residence about the program and another reason why we love it!
"We are all hella emotional today.
Today was our art show for the residents at Rowan Helping Ministries to close out the program - no one wanted to see it end this season, there were so many tears today, so me and Stef said the hell with it, we got art supplies, let’s just keep going. Typically this program runs Winter to Spring for 10 weeks, but we’ve seen how important this program is, and decided to stay on.
Our class was the most attended class at Rowan Helping Ministries … EVER. Like EVER. The program director said when she was looking at the attendance numbers, she had to do a double take.
Each year we bond with the residents and this year was no different, but to us, they’re not just residents, they’re not bed #28 in the shelter, they are Roy aka RC, Ray, Ms. Beverly, Sherry (who was one of the ones who sold a piece today! She cried when she sold it, which made us cry along with her, ya’ll have NO IDEA how much it means to them, to us, to YOUR community), they are DT Holcombs, Janet and Jay. They are our friends. And yeah, we love them. We advocate for them and we work hella hard to make sure they KNOW they are LOVED. <3
I had them sign the back of my shirt today from when we tye dye’d shirts last week - it’ll be a shirt I will cherish, but we’ll be back…we ain't done till we say we done. That’s the heart of Center for Faith and the Arts, the heart of Guerilla Poets, the heart of Rowan Helping Ministries. <3
Everyone today said thank you - but really it's ALWAYS an HONOR to serve + pour LOVE into our communities - so thank you Salisbury, for letting us pour the love in."
