SURPRISE!!! Some of you may know that I've started offering DJ LESSONS! 🙌🤩 If you've always wanted to learn or even just want to improve your skills, now's your chance. I currently have 3 students and have room for 3-4 more starting the end of March. This is for DJing ONLY! (I don't produce...yet) If you're interested, shoot me a DM. Please Read all the details below before contacting me 🙏❤️
I will be the first to admit that I definitely do not know everything there is to know about DJing. Every time I get on that board, I learn something new. But I do feel like I'm to the point that I can offer what knowledge I do have to anyone that wants to learn. I LOVE DJing, it's changed my life. And I LOVE teaching, I have 2 degrees in it. When you feel like you've hit a plateau, or are losing motivation... TEACH! It's the sure way to bring back the spark and improve your skills as well!😉 So whether you have no experience, a little, or a lot, there's always something to gain from mixing with another DJ. Let me show you what I know!
What I can teach you:
1. Where to find the good tunes and how to organize and download them efficiently (this takes the MOST time)
2. How to clean up your file management on your computer, organize your platform, and set up your tracks and playlists for easy browsing
3. How to analyze your tracks correctly, tag your genres, and set your cue points for easy on-the-spot mixing
4. The basics of phrasing, beat matching, and mixing in key, so you can transition through any genre smoothly
5. The general set up of a controller and what all those crazy k***s, buttons, and sliders do (the fun part!)
6. How to make the switch to Rekordbox if you are using something else but need to be USB- ready for the big boy CDJs
7. How to set the vibe, read your crowd, and use your physical presence to do more than just mix (let's find your spark!)
8. How to create and market your brand by using Soundcloud, Instagram, and Facebook effectively to post your mixes/content and extend your audience
9. What promoters are really looking for and how to market yourself for bookings
10. Anything else you want to learn that I haven't thought of... if I can't teach you, I'll point you to someone who can!
What you need to get started:
1. A laptop or PC (laptop preferred), this is actually your number 1 tool
2. A music platform subscription, I use Soundcloud, but any works, but Soundcloud is the best 😎
3. Rekordbox downloaded... it's FREE!
4. Surprise! You don't NEED a controller to get started. 😱 I'd say you can do about 75% of the work just with a computer, so if you don't have one yet, that's ok! You can still get started and save up for one later.
5. A good and humble attitude (even if you're an expert in some sort of musical talent, there's ALWAYS something more to learn)
What I ask in return:
1. Commitment: 2 hour lessons either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly
2. Discipline: yes there will be homework!😉 Set aside at least 2 hours a week on your own for finding and organizing tracks, and 2 hours a week for practicing mixing (if you have a board).
3. Open to feedback: critiques, both positive and negative, are the key to growth.
4. Respect: if you need cancel or reschedule, please do so 24 hours in advance. Payments are due at the end of the lesson. Trades are negotiated.
5. Compensation: my time and skills are valuable, as are yours. My intent is to make this a side job to earn more income, while helping you reach your goal for DJing.
-I'm open to sliding-scale payments of 25 to 50 an hour. This is based on your financial ability, and also what you think the value of the lessons are worth.
-I also accept trades based on my personal needs (babysitting, house cleaning, home repair, yard work, meal prepping, hair/lashes/brows, bodywork, tattoos, art, etc.)
-If you already know how to DJ, but just want to get together and mix with me, trading skills is great payment in my opinion!
Again, if you are interested please shoot me a DM. My schedule is limited but we can find a time that works for both of us.
