📝We are very happy with the first to bloom from this group. My intention was dark, wine colored blooms with a flask of apple green and so far most have not disappointed

Another favorite thing about this hybrid is the darkly pigmented foliage. This was present in the seed parent Paphiopedilim Chou-Yi Apple Web 'Boxer Rebellion' AM/AOS and most of the seedlings have exhinited this color

𝘽𝙪𝙡𝙗𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙡𝙡𝙪𝙢 𝙀𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙝 𝘼𝙣𝙣 is probably the most famous hybrid in the entire genus, this in a family of amazing flowers known for crazy patterns and shapes with appendages and fimbriations of all sorts to attract pollinators of all types. It’s also a genus famous for its “fragrances” which mimic rotting flesh many times protruding from a hinged lip that rocks with every movement in the breeze

📝 When I started growing orchids, this was the group that taught me all the valuable lessons-understanding when (and when not) to water, the importance of good light, how diurnal temperature and day length matter and especially how to repot. Back then many people grew 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 and so many people started growing with a division given to them by a friend. If you can learn to grow 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 you can learn to grow nearly anything

Known for many decades as 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 𝙜𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙨 (which means “giant”) , 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙯𝙞𝙞 is a distinct member of the labiate section. It’s sheer size can become monstrous with time, and even though I have grown some gigantic specimens of the 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 family, 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙯𝙞𝙞 becomes the biggest overall. A really large 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙚 is something to behold but they grow more round and not as vertical while 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙯𝙞𝙞 is known for its tall flower spikes with up to 10, 12” blooms

📝 The smallest member of the unifoliate/large-flowered Cattleya species, 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 𝙟𝙚𝙣𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙞 is still a stunner in its own right 🤩

It’s definitely a classic that has all of the great attributes of the other 𝙇𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙚 types (fragrance, a variety of color forms, large frilly blooms) but it’s smaller growth habit can make it more amendable to a smaller growing space. That being said, I’ve grown some plants that have flowers as big or bigger than 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙮𝙖 𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙖
