Wipe those blues off your face with some announcements for River City Rushdown this Saturday!

First up we have confirmation on pot bonus numbers. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Otaku Cafe and your RCR team, each game will be receiving a $100 pot bonus AND on top of that, a special someone has donated an extra $100 to Strive bringing that game up to $200 total.

As a bit of side fun, we'll also be running a $1 buy-in FT5 ROCK PAPER SCISSORS TOURNAMENT. You think your mind games are nice? You got pattern recognition? Is Rock really cheap as a frame 1 reversal when the Scissors/Paper OS exists? Winner takes all AND receives a prize figure of their choice* from Otaku Cafe.

You have 12 hours left to sign up for our second bi-weekly tomorrow at Otaku Cafe! Sign-ups cut off at MIDNIGHT sharp. THERE ARE NO ON-SITE SIGNUPS.

Just like last time its $5 venue fee (cash or card paid to Otaku Cafe) and $5 tourney fee per game (cash only at our registration set-up). If you bring a console with all character dlc for any of the games tomorrow it will waive your venue fee. This is very important as we are a community-run event and the more set-ups brought, the smoother we can run each game's tournament. Each game currently has a $50 pot bonus. Any questions, please feel free to hit me up.

YO. Long time, no post. Hope everyone is doing as well as they can be during this crazy year. With covid not letting up and social distancing still being in effect we are sticking with online events only for the foreseeable future.

If you enjoy SFV and would like to enter a free to play tournament hosted by yours truly, Eric, then do I have some good news for you.

Introducing River City Rollback! A Street Fighter V monthly netplay series hosted here in San Antonio open to all of Texas (and Texas only).

Our first public tournament will be September 26th at 5pm! If you'd like to participate, head on over to smash.gg at https://smash.gg/RCRollback0920 where you'll find all the rules and details on how to sign up and links to the SAFGC discord for communication during the tournament.

Been dwelling on making this status for a couple of days now but I think with the most recent news and updates, its best to make the decision ASAP. Moving forward, due to COVID-19, all River City Rushdown monthly events are postponed til further notice.

While we may not operate on the same scale as music festivals or FGC majors, cramming 100+/- bodies into a close quarters arcade isn't a smart thing to do with an infectious disease on the loose with confirmed cases around Texas. Even though our crowd is mostly 20-30 year olds with general well-being thus having a high survivability rate for the disease, there are people in all of our lives who are not in those ranges, being elderly or immunocompromised, and are thus more at-risk when it comes to the situation.

I hate that its come to this because we were making strides in growth and consistency leading up to the new venue for our monthlies but none of that matters because the actual health of our local scene is the most important. Wash your hands, hit the lab, and we'll have a big ol comeback monthly when this all (hopefully) blows over.

Yesterday was WILD. Tournaments for 7 different games, 108 registered entrants total on Smash.GG, all done between 2pm and about 10pm. Out of towners ranged from Austin, Corpus, Laredo, Houston, the Valley, and more. Thank you to everyone for showing up and supporting the scene. Thank you to my bracket runners Ryan, Manuel, Gibbs, and Cody. Y'all helped everything chug along nicely. Eternal gratitude to RikRic OtakuCafe for being the absolute best venue we've ever had and always providing for us. The extra BenQ monitors came in very clutch.

I'm marking this as a personal success in regards to organization and overall a success for the local scene as we continue to grow more and more. Below will be a list of yesterday's winners and pictures taken.

We will be trying a new organization layout tomorrow so please bear with us! There will be signs posted where each game will be allowed to set-up, both upstairs and in the downstairs cafe area. Related to this if you are bringing a PS4 set-up for MK11, GBFV, or Soul Calibur 6, a monitor would be appreciated as well. Otaku has about 8 spare monitors and while I’ve personally used them and think they’re perfectly acceptable, they are slightly smaller than the average monitor size which some people may not approve of.

Sign-up hard cut off time is an hour before each game’s posted start time. If you are signed up but not yet present when a bracket begins, you have 10 mins until you are DQ’d into losers. At 15 mins, you may start in losers or become completey DQ’d. With the amount of games we’re running we can no longer compensate for your tardiness.
