It was in the night that the Father of heavenly lights became the light of the world, the Giver of every good and perfect gift became the gift-given, the Author of humanity became the Word made flesh.

It was in the long night when the High King of Heaven would be born lowly. So low he would descend as to be born into a cave and later buried likewise.

A cave - it would serve as His cradle and grave, and which would see Him shake the very foundations of Eden’s desolation and the powers that had built their monuments upon it, sowing a new world from it all.
The life died, the light was covered by earth, yet the darkness could not overcome it, neither could the grave. Life and light.

The great reversal of all things, and this, its beginning, was like a small seed planted in the ground of that stony stable, while the heavens declared the glory of it all.

In this third week of Advent, we wait knowing that He is doing wonderful things. Our study of Psalm 98 calls us to celebrate God’s work with shouts for joy, and to continually wait with joy for the Messiah to come again in glory.

As we prepare to celebrate the incarnation, we are

world and brings us peace.

The holiday season, often called “the most wonderful time of the year,” is filled with joy, parties, lights, and treats, but observing the liturgical calendar reveals an even deeper significance. Advent begins this sacred journey, teaching us to wait with the ancient Israelites for the Messiah and to anticipate Jesus’ return in glory. Christmas marks the fulfillment of this waiting, ushering in a season of celebration as we worship the Christ child. The season of Epiphany then highlights Christ’s unexpected yet glorious nature. Together as a church family, we will explore the Psalms that prophesy Jesus as our Savior, deepening our sense of wonder and uncovering the hope, peace, joy, and love he brings during this holy time.

“So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.“ 1 Peter 1:13 (NLT)
Last week we turned a page on the calendar of the Church Year, entering the season of Advent! That word, “Advent” means “coming” and it is a season that waits in anticipation in the tension of the already/not yet - looking backwards toward the coming of Christ as a baby in a manger which we celebrate during Christmas, but also looking forward with hope to that day when Christ will come again in glory.
