It is with mixed emotions that we share longtime Bexar County Master Gardener, Barbara Lutz class 40, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 1st. Barbara was a driving force in San Antonio’s gardening scene as a member of multiple gardening organizations. Barbara led the BCMG four times as president and was instrumental in the ex*****on of gardening events year-round.
She was an active member, participating in the rodeo, youth gardening activities, serving as a culinary docent, and more. She leaves behind many close friends in our organization and needless to say, we are thankful for Barbara’s dedication and service to BCMG.

Barbara's family will be hosting a "Celebration of Life" this Sunday, September 8, from 2-5 pm. at the San Antonio Garden Center located at 3310 N New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, TX.

The summer months have nearly passed us by, and soon, more monarchs may be passing by monarch watchers on their fall migration south.

Unlike spring migration, monarchs' fall migration is typically completed in just one generation (though some monarchs will breed again in the South in August). The monarchs born in August will live up to nine months, spending the winter in warmer climates before eventually starting next year's migration journey.

Help us track fall migration by submitting your observations this season ➡ https://journeynorth.org/sightings/

Drone development has proceeded at a remarkable pace, jumping many technical hurdles, and making aerial vehicles a viable solution for large-scale reforestation projects. “Drones are a key part of the restoration toolkit, and they bring the goal of “restoring and reforesting all degraded land within reach.”

Of course, big challenges remain, and drone advocates agree that aerial seeding isn’t the right solution for every reforestation project. “The purpose of aerial seeding is not to create a magic solution, but to add another tool in the toolbox of reforestation or restoration programs. and a way to monitor what is happening in an area.
