I love creating beautiful things! It gives me so much pleasure to carefully maneuver stems, making them to lay just right.
But, my goal is not to become the best in my industry. The ‘best’ is relative and unmeasurable. I don’t do this work to become famous or popular.
I am here however, to be the best that "I" can be. To be the best business woman, best teacher, best designer, best gardener that "I" am capable of being.

I am not in this world of business men and women to win anything. It is not a competition to me. I only want to walk a life of self confidence and self sufficiency. I am here to empower any and every person I can, to be the best version of themselves.

These are a few principles we will be going over in my Facebook group, Blooming into Beautiful.

When I took a poll on Instagram I discovered that 94% of my friends struggle with confidence in their skills and abilities.
This absolutely crushed me. When I see people, I see all that they are capable of.
But confidence doesn't come from someone telling you what they see in you. Confidence comes from a deep place within yourself.
I know that with steady empowerment and guidance you can step into having genuine self confidence.

Story Time: An experience I had that taught me to have confidence in myself. I was teaching a student/ employee in the studio and she asked what floral item was easiest for me to make. I said it was the personal bouquets. Everyone there was confused and dismayed because for them, the bouquet was the hardest item to master. I explained that it was because everyone I teach are stuck using only one of their senses. Their eyes. What I had learned through years of practice was to design by touch and not just with my sight. It was also an easy item to create because I love them so much. Also, It is easiest to master skills that you deeply desire. And making beautiful bouquets is one of my greatest passions.

What are you about as a person? Like, what is it that makes your heart sing?

A few years back I realized I would continue to be tossed around in my emotions, messy in my business, and life direction would be scattered, if I did not understand my unique purpose. So after months of so much soul searching and filtering through wants, needs, hopes and dreams, I honed in on what I truly value in life. My purpose in life is to deeply touch every person I meet and leave them more whole and beautiful than how I met them. If I have done this I will be fulfilled and inspired.

I have started a Facebook Group called Blooming into Beautiful. This is a space for those who desire to learn self confidence, and seek after their purpose, and it will be filled with flowers and beauty of course. When I started my business at age 21, In my heart I was scared. I knew I was not equipped to run a business. I didn’t know all my flowers, I am horrible with numbers and couldn’t tell you what a balance sheet was. Even now at 30 I feel like an ignorant 16 year old with a dream I am not big enough to fill. But I know the skills and gifts I have are enough. I have prayed over where God wants my hands to be working and it is here. It is this.
People have spoken this over me
I have been affirmed that I am meant to teach
I have been affirmed that I have a voice to change the direction of human lives toward thriving.
And while i do this I get to do my favorite thing… design, create and be around flowers.
I get to build something beautiful. I am blooming into beautiful.

Creating Moments! Giving life to dreams! Having a blast while doing it! 🥰
2011 was when I started my business, but I think, if I remember correctly, my first wedding on my own was in 2008.

In 2008 it was for fun and someone saw that I could do it. I probably lost money cause I was only having them reimburse for the flowers and forgot to charge them for things like ribbon.

I didn't care though! I cranked down the little, window AC unit as far as it would let me. I was just happy to be around flowers.

I believe I did two more weddings after that before pursuing floristry as a business.

I started my business in 2011 at age 21 under the business name Katie’s Concoctions. My logo was a science beaker with creative items bubbling out of it. It was the remnants of a 13 year olds dreams and entrepreneurial spirit. It was a picture of my scattered thoughts. Creative in every direction and with no focus. But a year later at 22, I was stepping out of my childhood and taking on the challenge of life and adult responsibility more seriously. Needless to say a rebranding was in order, and thus Velours Designs was born. With a beautiful silhouette of a woman. A flower in her hair, a splash of watercolor paint and the sweet colors of spring.

Moral of the story... the journey is far more beautiful than the destination!

The Blooming Process

Velours Floral Design is Owned by Katie Welin and is based in San Clemente, CA. Katie loves beautiful thing, is artistic and has a designers eye for detail. Her hobbies include, painting, drawing, crafts, interior design, outdoor adventures and gardening.

At age 13 Katie and her entrepreneurial spirit came up with her first business name, “Katie’s Concoctions. She even designed her own logo. The focus of this business was not flowers but just anything and everything creative. Everything was later to be rebranded because this first name and logo were obviously created by a 13 year old. That year she also began traveling down and helping her aunt arrange flowers for her floral business in San Jose and discovered she had an eye for it.

At 18 she designed her very first wedding in Redding, CA for a friend, still not even knowing that this was an option for a career. Later at age 20, Katie worked and trained under her cousin’s business in San Jose, Asiel Designs. There she learned worlds more about technique and floral design processes. After a year working there, Katie broke her leg and moved home to Redding. A few months of laying on her back with no other occupation than to think about what to do with her life, Katie decided to start her floral design company and also study business at Simpson University. She got her business license and applied for school. While studying she began building her portfolio with one to two weddings a year. After graduating in 2014 Katie was ready to give it everything.

Since graduating Katie’s business, has grown exponentially. Velours Designs has developed into luxury wedding and event floral design. They specialize creative floral installations, gorgeous bridal bouquets, elegant floral crowns, stunning centerpieces, and trendy men's boutonnieres.
