, also known as style moderne or simply "deco", was a popular arts and architecture movement in Europe and the United States during the 1920 through the 1940s. The style is known for its sharp lines, geometric patterns, and shiny metal surfaces. Art Deco was also associated with the extravagance of the 1920s. We will also have influences from which is characterized by intricate linear designs and flowing curves based on natural forms.

Mosley is exclusively represented by Sparks Gallery in Southern California. Born in Berlin, Charlene Mosley is a fine artist, illustrator and muralist, who works in oil and watercolor. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from San Diego State University and minored in German Studies. She resides in San Diego.

Mosley’s current work discusses the 21st century media-driven society and its relationship to technology and nature. Her work depicts people surrounded by plants and animals, with an interplay of expressive brushwork. Mosley has exhibited in both national and international exhibitions. She also works as a freelance independent artist on a multitude of projects, including: murals, private commissions, and book illustrations.

Sparks Gallery is pleased to show new work by bi-coastal artist Monty Montgomery in his solo exhibition, “Intersection”. 

Profoundly affected by his upbringing in the rural woods of Virginia’s countryside, Monty Montgomery’s work has always been informed by his visceral and emotional reactions to everyday experiences, such as exploring nature, or trekking city streets. His distinctive artistic voice was shaped in his teen years, when he began expressing his perception of the external world in bright geometric abstraction. His characteristic style emerged as a result of distilling sensory input through the lens of urban and natural landscapes. Using color theory, mathematics, and intuition, he attempts to harmonize the collision of these elements into something beautiful and cohesive.

Montgomery uses his innate intuition for color and object relationships to connect with the viewer, sharing his artistic vision through a “visual-emotional language”, as he calls it. His interpretation of everyday scenes is often surprising, as the end results look vastly different than their real world counterparts. This unique perspective grants Montgomery both strength and vulnerability in his art practice.

Tiffany Bociek’s solo exhibition, “Enduring Exuberance”, consists of three series that were born from the artist’s internal exploration of her past, her present state of being, and a vision for her future self. This is the first in a series of exhibitions in 2024 at the gallery that will explore the curatorial theme of “Memories”.

Created through encaustic (wax) painting, the exhibition underscores several states of being: well-being, challenge, chaos, and transformation. In experiencing these works, we see that the physical layering of the wax draws a lovely parallel to memories that are passed down from one generation to the next as each is added to the collective family narrative. Her practice results in the creation of a spirited scene – some almost diorama-like – that is rich with detail and imagery. The artist reflects on the circle of life, and the power of nature to ground us through her layered and sentimental works.

From flowers and tender smoke tendrils, to DNA strands and other geometric shapes, each of Pattie Parkhurst's designs uses sheets of metal that are sometimes hammered thousands of times to bring traditional anticlastic designs to life.

Sparks Gallery now carries several of her beautiful designs, and will have her work in our "In Wonderland" silent auction. She is also available to create custom designs upon request.

On view now, Annalise Neil’s work is an exploration of what it is like to be human in an interconnected word. She muses, "All properties of all things are relational, and life is only possible through a collaborative symphony—nothing exists independently. Every living thing is a complex, multidimensional universe that interacts with others to form a prismatic web of energy."

If you are curious to learn more about her process of using sunlight and locally sourced materials to make her prints, we invite you to mark your calendar for Coffee and Conversation on Sunday, October 15, from 11:00am – 1:00pm at the gallery to meet the artist and enjoy her work on the last day of her solo exhibition.
