Patricia Astorga, founder of DanzArts, will be returning as instructor for the Adult Beginner/ Intermediate Folkorico class, the Adult Flamenco class, and Sabor Mexico Theatrical Company.

Patricia is a first generation Mexican-American who has dedicated her life to teaching and dance throughout the San Diego community. Astorga’s training began at the early age of 7yrs old at the world-renowned school of Amalia Hernández (Ballet Folklórico de México.). She has also trained with Flamenco Masters in Spain. In 2005, Astorga formed “Sabor Mexico Theatrical Dance Co.” and in 2006 she formed the Flamenco dance company, “La Esencia Flamenca.” These two dance companies were combined under DanzArts Non-Profit Organization that has included over 100 dancers, musicians, and a lively Children’s Academy. DanzArts’ mission is to provide a creative and relevant space for artistic and cultural expression, as well as preserving and raising cultural awareness of Mexico and Spain by giving back to the community through dance and music. DanzArts has shared the stage with Lila Downs, the San Diego Symphony and Mariachi Sol de Mexico and collaborated with Dance Companies from West Africa, Cuba, Philippines and Peru.

Danzarts is happy to announce that Ms. Catherine will return to teaching our Children’s Flamenco class this season!

With over 20 years experience as a flamenco dancer, Catherine joined La Esencia Flamenco under the direction of Patricia Astorga in 2011. 
With several years as an instructor for both children and adults, Catherine will be welcoming students ages 5-12 to our class on Saturdays from 9:00-9:45 am.

It is our pleasure to introduce Alexa Mancillas-New instructor for children’s academy ballet folklorico class for ages 10-12.

Alexa is deeply passionate about sharing the art of Folklórico dance, a journey she began at the age of 7 with Wakusma, where she danced until she was 14. Her love for this vibrant art form continued through four years in the Performing Arts program at Chula Vista High School, and with the Folklórico group, Chicanos Fronterizos. She also had the honor of performing with her college's Folklórico group, further strengthening her connection to this rich tradition.

Beyond performance, she has had the privilege of leading a special needs Folklórico group, where she emphasized the importance of inclusivity and community in the world of dance.

It is with great pleasure that we introduce Marissa Soler- The new instructor for children’s academy ballet folklorico class for ages 5-9.

Marissa commenced her training in Ballet Folklorico at the age of five and has had the privilege of dancing with Ballet Folklorico Jalisciense under the esteemed direction of Mary López for 29 years. This experience afforded her the opportunity to perform internationally, with notable tours including China and Finland with Ballet Folklorico Jalisciense, as well as collaborations with Mariachi Garibaldi Southwestern College in Brazil and Belgium. Her performance repertoire includes esteemed venues such as Symphony Hall, Joan B. Kroc Theatre, Copley Symphony Hall, Spreckels Theater, Cecut in Tijuana, Del Mar Fair, Disneyland, and California Adventure, among many others. Throughout her career, she has developed expertise in dancing styles from over 18 regions.
