👨‍⚖️ We’re bringing in a dream team of culinary experts, food lovers, and community voices to judge this year’s Hey Auntie! Gumbo Cooking Contest 2025:

🔥 Yvonne Hines () – Founder of Yvonne’s Southern Sweets. She was the 1st place winner of Hey, Auntie! 2024 and has earned recognition from local and state leaders, as well as major contracts, including Super Bowl 50 and Chase Center.

🔥 Raychelle Howard () – The CEO of Remy's Creations and a 2024 winner of the Hey, Auntie! Gumbo Cooking Contest. Remy has a genuine passion for food and she cooks with love and from the heart.

🔥 Adonis Marcelino () – SF native, foodie content creator, and community advocate who highlights the people and stories behind the food. A true voice for the Bay Area’s diverse food scene.

🔥 Cecilia Phillips () – Food journalist, TV host, and storyteller passionate about uncovering the flavors and cultures that make the Bay Area a culinary powerhouse. Producer of Check, Please! Bay Area on KQED and the face behind Cecilia Tries It, Beyond the Menu, and her original food game show Chew on This.

🔥 Jeff Hunt () – Host of Storied SF Podcast, a storyteller who has been chasing the perfect bowl of gumbo since moving to SF in 2000. Last year, he hosted the Gumbo Fireside Chat at National Gumbo Week.

As part of Black History Month and in celebration of Black Food Culture, we’re inviting you to participate in the Hey, Auntie! Gumbo Cooking Contest 2025. Whether you’re a home cook or a professional chef, this is your chance to show off your skills. Aunties, Uncles, and gumbo enthusiasts—this one’s for you!

✨ Contest Details:
🍲 Who Can Apply: Home cooks and chefs celebrating Black food culture
📅 Event Date: February 15, 2025, following the SF Black History Month Parade
📍 Location: Bayview Opera House

Contest Rules & Support:

Gumbo Social will provide a pantry kit with basic gumbo essentials (celery, onion, bell pepper, flour, oil, chicken, sausage, and more). Each contestant gets a $50 stipend to purchase additional ingredients. Gumbo Social will provide cooked rice on event day. Prepare your gumbo at home and serve 50-100 tastings (2-4 oz each) plus one plated competition bowl for the judges (approx. 2 gallons total).

🧑🏽‍🍳 Food Safety Required:
Contestants must attend a food safety discussion with Chef Dontaye Ball (live or recorded).
