A Message from The Festival.

In light of the uncertainty from the impact of COVID-19, Sakura Matsuri, Inc. has decided to cancel the 53rd Annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival scheduled April 11-12 and 17-19.

This decision was a difficult one as we have held 52 consecutive annual festivals in San Francisco’s Japantown prior to this year but the safety and health of our visitors, participants and community is of the utmost importance to us and our number one priority. We sincerely pray for a rapid containment and solution to this pandemic and hope the people who have been affected return to good health and normalcy. Thank you for all your support. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions, comments or concerns.

🎌 Setsubun is celebrated in Japan every February 3rd during the Haru Matsuri or Spring Festival. 🌱🌼 It is the day before the beginning of spring in Japan and has a literal meaning of "seasonal division". 🏮 During the event, a special ritual called "mamemaki" is done to cleanse away all the evil of the former year and drive away bad fortunes for the year to come! 👺👹⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠

Announcing: The third GoH for this Saturday's Cosplay on the Catwalk: SAYORI CHU

Sayori Chu is a California-based cosplayer with a deep love and admiration for anime, films, comics, and video games. All of these mediums provide an escape that brings us all a sense of relief and joy. Being able to bring characters to life by art and cosplay makes things much more real. Sayori holds a high level of respect for character design; her desire to pay homage to artists and creators is translated in being as accurate as possible when it comes to cosplay. This has helped her collaborate with other cosplayers as well.

There is a soft spot for older 90’s and early 2000's series in her heart because that's where it all started. Those series are what shaped her her life in various ways, which is why she enjoys paying homage to them.

Sayori loves attending anime events, as the community has become another home.

Our 4th and final judge for 4/14 is none other than Fnu Shin, a.k.a. Cylverxz!

"I debuted my first cosplay at a con in Jan 2012 and have been active ever since. Unsatisfied with just cosplay and the difficulties in setting up photoshoots, I picked up my very first camera late 2013 and have been inseparable since. With my camera, I strive to not just capture the beauty of cosplays, elaborate or not, but also more to convey the aesthetics of everyday life in cosplay in cosplay.

Dbnibbles Cosplay is an East Bay native with a passion for cosplay, animation, and video games. She started her cosplay journey in 2010 when she attended her first anime convention. From that point on she was hooked on cosplay. She continues to improve her skills in cosplay construction, learning how to sew and how to construct props with foam. She loves to compete in cosplay competitions and encourage others to get into cosplay no matter who they are!
