'Eiming was the first person to put art, drinking, and music together in a public business in San Francisco." -- Michelle Delaney / 111 Minna Gallery

Founded by Eiming Jung, 111 Minna Gallery opened its doors at 111 Minna Street in the SoMa aka Yerba Buena District of San Francisco in 1993. This location would later become the heart of an up and coming art district, which was later solidified wit

h the construction of the SF MOMA, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and progressive galleries in the surrounding area. With a business model focused on service and hospitality, patrons began to relish the visual aesthetics sourced from Bay Area artists, in conjunction with the laid-back atmosphere that has long been associated with 111 Minna. While acting as host for a vast variety of art, specifically focused on underground, low brow, edgy and often controversial, 111 Minna quickly became, for many artists, the San Francisco gallery to exhibit their work, gaining a reputation for launching artists’ careers, both nationally and internationally. Since 1993, 111 Minna Gallery has maintained its reputation for constant progression and positive energy, and in so doing, has become a cornerstone of San Francisco culture. We're proud to be San Francisco's melting pot of creativity, art, music, and good times.

While having a conversation about landscape design in Dolores Park, the term "Prospect Repose" was born. In landscape architecture, "Prospect-Refuge" refers to the balance of two concepts: "prospect"—the ability to perceive and acquire visual information, explore environments, and discover opportunities; and "refuge"—the desire for shelter, protection, and spaces where one can retreat.

TAMARA DE LEMPICKA
At The deYoung Museum

This the final week to see this breath taking retrospective exhibition of the work of Tamara de Lempicka. The exhibition provides a mix of Art Deco culture, cubism mixed with fine art oil painting inspired by the masters, gender identity and a glimpse into the struggles of the early/mid 20th century.

The exhibition closes on Sunday, February 9th, so get you tickets soon!!!!!

"With works that exuded cool elegance and transgressive sensuality, Tamara de Lempicka (1894–1980) helped define Art Deco. Her paintings captured the glamour and vitality of postwar Paris and the cosmopolitan sheen of Hollywood celebrity. This exhibition — the first major museum retrospective of Lempicka in the United States — explores the artist’s distinctive style and unconventional life through four major chapters. The more than 100 artworks on display range from her post-Cubist work in 1920s Paris to her most famous nudes and portraits to the melancholic still lifes and interiors of her final days in the United States and Mexico. Including an in-depth look at the artist’s drawings and studies, this exhibition reveals the creative process behind her iconic paintings."

In September 1941, Tamara de Lempicka visited San Francisco for her first solo exhibition at a local art gallery. Organized by New York art dealer Julien Levy, the exhibition was held at the Courvoisier Gallery (formerly at 133 Geary Street). Lempicka’s 12 paintings and drawings in the show, many featured in Tamara de Lempicka, showcased her latest direction in painting. By then, the artist had already mastered the style we know today as Art Deco, with its bold shapes, geometric forms, and fantastic bright and earthy colors.

The term Art Deco comes from the 1925 International Exposition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. It refers to a modern style of interiors, architecture, art, design, clothing, and objects. First emerging in Europe, particularly France, during the period between World War I and World War II, Art Deco quickly spread internationally, including to the United States..." - www.famsf.org

About HOME:

Lady Mags has lived and travelled all over the world. As a child, she moved a lot; and as a young mother, she has moved her children several times as well. She has had to make a HOME wherever she resided.

For ‘HOME’, Lady Mags will be collaborating with other artists of whom she has admired over the years. Artists that she feels bring a feeling of safety and HOME wherever they go. She wishes and hopes that all feel at HOME when experiencing her exhibition while viewing the pieces, hand upholstered furniture and murals that come together to make this exhibition come together at 111 Minna Gallery.

🌼⛓️Daisy Chain ⛓️🌼 is an artist-curated exhibition where the artists themselves drive the selection process. We started with one artist, chosen to kick off the show, and from there, they selected the next participant from a pool of 116 submitted works. The second artist then chose the third, and so on, creating a chain of artists picking one another's work. 🖼 The exhibition will be displayed in this chosen order, forming the Daisy Chain⛓️🌼 concept. This unique process not only promotes community but also breaks away from traditional curation, showcasing a truly collaborative experience!
