Canessa Gallery is at the center of San Francisco's rich artistic, literary, and cultural history. Our mission is to support and showcase the work of artists who want to be artists for their lifetime. We are located in the landmark Canessa Building -- a diminutive old-brick gem that is one of downtown San Francisco's last links with her colorful, bohemian past. While many of the original buildings

in the area did not survive the era of high-and-higher architecture, the historic Canessa Building has -- and continues to glow with the light, life, and magic of artists at work.

Ronald Garrigues: Art & Activism

November 5, 2021 – Ronald Garrigues, An Artistic Life book launch.
Be sure to join us at the historic Canessa Gallery, 708 Montgomery street on Friday November 5th, 2021. Held in parallel with the North Beach First Friday Art Crawl, the gallery will be open from 6 to 8 PM.
Mr. Garrigues’, legacy continues to evolve world-wide, as he gains recognition as a defender of our planet against those who would denigrate it, either unintentionally or through greed, power and corruption.
An Artistic Life is a signed limited edition, showcasing the majority of Mr. Garrigues’ art works. Several of his bronze skulls will also be on exhibit at the Canessa Gallery for the month of November as well.

Nov. 17, 2021 – Art, Activism and the Anthropocene

Non-profit partner Global Witness with CEO Mike Davis will join us on November 17th at 6:30pm for a presentation on their campaigns in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Brazil. June 2021
'Impractical Operators' by Bryan Day

‘Impractical Operators’ showcases sound sculptures, invented instruments and drawings created between 2017 and 2021, many of which were constructed during the pandemic. In assembling this collection, I hope to highlight pieces that demonstrate the unexpected sound-making qualities of common everyday objects, encourage visitors to play around and maybe get a laugh or two.
