The Academy is a LGBTQ+ social club open to all, focused on promoting genuine social interactions while offering engaging programming in collaboration with nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and leading community members. The Club is located in San Francisco's Castro District and was founded in 2017.

The social club is open to anyone who wishes to apply – all are welcome – and aspires to

be diverse in age, race, gender, and social standing, with all members sharing a common interest in engaging in the community and valuing in-person interactions.

In addition to the social club and its associated programming, The Academy also offers a barber salon, a daytime co-working lounge called Academy Daylight, and has space available to rent for private events.

Join us for a beloved tradition at The Academy as we kick off the holiday season with our Holiday Tree Lighting & Ornament Party on December 4th. Each year, we invite our members to hang their own ornament on our tree, marking the start of the season together. It’s a special moment we look forward to, and we’d love for you to be part of it.

Celebrate with us for the most-anticipated night at The Academy SF! We’d love to see you on November 15 for The Academy Presents: The 2024 Legends Awards, honoring Donna Sachet 🌟

The Legends Archive Award recognizes one individual whose impact and presence have illuminated the LGBTQ+ community, and Donna’s contributions truly make her a living legend. As part of this honor, Donna will contribute a personal artifact to the Legends Archive, preserving her legacy for generations.

Hosted by Sister Roma and featuring performances by Russell Deason, San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, and Shün Kanazawa, this night promises inspiration, entertainment, and community connection.

We’re also honoring the following:
