Often friends ask if its true that food photography is faked and painted over. Maybe for bigger commercials? For me its real food straight out of the kitchen, the best chef style it and I just have to get the lighting and composition right. Most of the time we get to eat it afterwards too!

Hobart on a nice sunny day. The cameras on higher end photos are so good nowadays that in most daylight situations I don't need to use the R5.

Shot a lot of Mediterranean food in my career. Was lucky enough to meet the owners of Oren's Hummus and do a few marketing shots for them. The pita bread was always fluffy and soft and there was several hummus dips to choose from.

The thing I loved the most when I was doing a lot of food photography for was meeting the Chefs behind the food. Even when you have a tough environment with no props, you can't help but give it your all when they're so excited about their dishes. I shot this with one the back of a baking tray in a catering kitchen and was lucky enough to try some of their delicious ceviche as well

Smitten Ice Cream was one of those great places to go after dinner when we lived close to the Mission and my wife and I always looked forward exploring new flavors they'd make each week. COVID was particularly tough on and and though times were tough for everyone we really hoped our local chains would pull through.

For a treat, we ordered a couple tubs and saw this on the bag. A hand written note saying thank you. It's the small acts of appreciation that people remember.

Whatever your views, please don't take it out on the small business owners that make unique.

The best projects not only look great, but taste great too. Contrary to what many will tell you. The food I photography is 100% real and edible, trick is to have it captured whilst it's fresh. This from the crew with steak, prawns and soft shell crab was delicious.
