Since day 1, GCODE has continued to reimagine the ways in which house & techno fans not only experience music, but connect with each other. Despite the utmost importance of the music we play, we place an equal importance on elements such as ambiance, comfort, lighting, media, art/decor, etc.
It all began in San Francisco during the summer of 2017 as a passion-project between two friends, Avi Abubaker (BAKR), and Ananya Mishra (The Architect). Together, the two made a name for themselves originally as a DJ duo known as “AVN” (AVi + aNanya, made EDM-esque), the only group in the Bay Area known to play G-House music, or “Gangsta-House” (hip-hop influenced house music) which, at the time, was an emerging sub-genre of house music.
AVN began organizing their own events by approaching local bars/pubs with an offer to drive them extra business on slow nights in exchange for letting them host a party in their space. After just a couple of months of hosting several highly successful events, the two had quickly fostered a modest, yet extremely loyal following of 100+ regular attendees at every show; tapping the community of other aspiring DJ’s, photographers, graphic designers, interior decorators, etc.. It wasn’t long before they decided that the tightly-packed pubs in the Tenderloin were simply not going to cut it anymore, and that it was time to find a new venue for their events.
The transition into the club scene happened during early 2018 through the opportunity to do a club “takeover”, which essentially gave them free-reign to curate their own DJ lineup in a side-room at a club as support for a headliner show. This effectively catalyzed their growth to the wider-community by establishing a regular presence at events and venues that their target audience existed. Over time, the relationships cultivated with the Bay Area’s top venues and industry leaders afforded even greater opportunities to the group. GCODE has since evolved into a full-scale events and entertainment company through their collective talents through areas including>
