Spend an afternoon learning a new song under the tutelage of Herb, practicing it in a group setting and then sitting back and enjoying a mini-concert featuring Herb and I hear, a “special guest.”

I know, I know, there's no food.
After consulting with Herb today, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to cancel this years Backyard Kanikapila due to the uncertainty and vacillation with policy and procedures regarding the COVID situation. Since our main goal is to provide a safe, relaxing environment to learn and enjoy music and food, we just couldn't see that happening this year.
In the following days we will be issuing refunds to all those who bought tickets to the event. If for some reason you do not receive a refund in the next few days, please contact Lori at (408) 838-3999.
Herb, Lori and I appreciate all the support we have received and we will make 2021's Backyard Kanikapila an event you will never forget!!
Take care of one another, keep supporting Hawaiian musicians and their music. And most importantly, keep spreading the Aloha!!
Aloha! We hope that you are all doing well and practicing on your ukuleles. We have been in constant contact with Herb and although it pains us, we have decided to “postpone” the 5th Annual Backyard to a later date this year for everyone’s safety. The date will be determined once the government has set us free!!
At this time, we are giving those who have purchased tickets two options:
(1). We will gladly refund your money and you can re-purchase a ticket, once we figure out what date the kanikapila will occur, or
(2). Do nothing, and we will just keep you on our list of “paid” guests and you can show up to the rescheduled kanikapila.
You can post your choice, here on the page, email Lori ([email protected]) or call or text Lori at (408) 838-3999 and leave a message.
Whatever choice you decide to make, we will send you and email or call you back, confirming we got your message.
This kanikapila WILL happen sometime this year, it is just a matter of when. Everyone stay safe, stay healthy and uke on!!

It's official, mark your calendars! Herb Ohta Jr.'s 5th Annual Workshop / Backyard Kanikapila has been set for Saturday, May 30th, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at the Da Wong Hale in San Jose, CA.
We are finalizing the "Special Guest(s)" who will be appearing with Herb, but it's shaping up to be an epic event. And as usual, let's not forget about the FOOD!!
Tickets are scheduled to go on sale March 1st, 2020 and because of the popularity of this event, we will be limiting the number of tickets to ** 75 **.
We will be sending out reminders and further information about the event in the coming weeks.

For all those we came from near and far to attend the 4th Annual Backyard Kanikapila, Herb, Bryan, Stephen, Lori and I would like to give out a big MAHALO for attending!
We had great music, hula, and of course FOOD!! We also got the chance to add a few new members to our Ohana.

Happy Aloha Friday! For those attending the 4th Annual Backyard Kanikapila tomorrow, there have been some questions raised:
1. If you have an ukulele, bring it!
2. If you have a music stand, bring it!
3. If you have a favorite chair, bring it!
4. If you want to video tape, no worries.
5. If you would like to bring a favorite food, you can bring it, but remember we will be serving a full dinner buffet, so you definitely will not go home hungry!
6. Again, parking will be a challenge, so come early so you have time to relax and have some appetizers before the workshop starts at 12:30.
