Last night, Nativa Productions hosted the first Carnival event in the Bay Area, featuring local musicians. The brilliant and talented performance by Mariana Bonetti enchanted everyone. The infectious energy of Batuki thrilled the audience, while Felipe da Silva (DJ Double 😎) took the crowd to new heights with rhythms inspired by the carnivals of Recife, Bahia, and Rio de Janeiro. The celebration included the birthday of our dear Marcia Tsuchiya, and to complement the experience, Chefbiancabarros was outside selling delicious gourmet skewers. No one stayed seated; the atmosphere was filled with positive energy, bringing the community together even on a rainy night. It was truly enchanting. Thanks to Jim (Earshot Music Production) for the partnership and to everyone who bought tickets and enjoyed the event, even in the rain! 🎉

We honor Brazilian singer Gal Costa, whose crystalline voice and transgressive sensuality made her the muse of the groundbreaking "Tropicalia" movement in the 1960s, died Wednesday. She was 77. She will be missed 😢

Acclaimed by fans and critics alike and hailed as one of the great Brazilian singer songwriters of the last 30 years, Adriana Calcanhotto is a musical chameleon who navigates from bossa nova, to samba, avant-garde, pop, MPB and beyond. A 2X Latin GRAMMY winner, Calcanhotto began her career in the mid 1980’s and has released over 20 albums reaching multi-platinum sales. Over the past three decades her songs have become the soundtrack for millions of fans through radio airplay, mesmerizing music videos, and as themes for major TV shows. With astonishing versatility and captivating poetry, Calcanhotto is able to compose popular ballads as well as conceptual pieces inspired by the literary greats. A published author with immense knowledge of the Portuguese language, Calcanhotto was invited by Coimbra University in Lisbon to teach a special class on poetry and music composition. The amazing Elza Soares. She has passed away. She was one of the greatest Brazilian singers of all time, and died at the aged of 91 at her home in Rio de Janeiro. Often called the queen of Brazilian samba, she released more than 30 albums in a career that spanned six decades.
Soares also used her music to campaign against racism and other forms of discrimination. She will be missed !
