A national theatre blog, OnStage Blog, contacted us on our opening night as it happened to coincide with the assassination attempt on a former president. Here's the story, along with accounts of two other productions of Assassins running right now, in Pennsylvania no less.
In the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, we spoke to two community theatres that are in the midst of performing Sondheim’s musical, ‘Assassins’.
Wow! High praise from ! Get thee to the theater! Tonight‘s show is at 7:30, Saturday at 7:30, and Sunday at 2:30. It’s a don’t miss of a very rarely produced production!

San Jose Playhouse postponed its production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins” a day after the attempt on former President Donald Trump.

"If I were only able to see one local show this year, I would not hesitate to make it this production of 'Assassins.'" Wow, what high praise! Thank you, Metro News for this insightful critique of our current production. Indeed, the timing of producing Assassins when a former president was the victim of political violence on our opening night couldn't be more bizarre. “Regardless of what happened yesterday, doing this show in this political climate is a risk,” said Shannon Guggenheim of San Jose Playhouse.
Although our Sat Jul 13 performance was canceled to give our cast a chance to decompress from the events of yesterday, we are proceeding with today’s performance of ASSASSINS. We look forward to sharing this compelling piece of theater with you, a piece that’s more timely than ever in terms of trying to understand the “why” behind the madness.
