✨ Did you know the Saratoga Foothill Club has a rich history? ✨
The Saratoga Foothill Club is the oldest social organization in Saratoga, with a legacy that spans over 100 years! 🌟
🔹 1907 – A small group of local women established the Foothill Study Group (later known as the Saratoga Foothill Club) as a gathering for self-improvement activities like reading and public speaking in members' homes.
🔹 1914 – The group officially incorporated as the Saratoga Foothill Club, becoming a cornerstone of the community.
🔹 1915 – The iconic Foothill Club building was designed by the renowned architect Julia Morgan, known for her many architectural masterpieces.
🔹 1917-1920s – The building served as Saratoga’s first movie theater, bringing entertainment to the village.
🔹 1927 – The club raised $12,000 (roughly $217,218 today!) to fund the construction of the first Saratoga Village Library.
🔹 1988 – The City of Saratoga honored the club with a memorial plaque, designating it as Heritage Resource No. 1.
🔹 2005 – The Saratoga Foothill Club was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places.
🔹 2007 – A sculpture of Julia Morgan wearing a bowler hat was created by Jerry Smith to commemorate the club’s centennial.
Today - The Saratoga Foothill Club continues to honor its founders’ mission to serve the community, offering a rich variety of activities and enjoyment for its members. The Saratoga Foothill Club Historic Landmark Foundation ensures the ongoing stewardship and preservation of this historic clubhouse.
