MY LOVEABLE NANA LEFT US LAST NIGHT. SHE COULD MAKE YOU BELLY LAUGH AND SHE WOULD TALK TO STRANGERS AS IF THEY WERE LONG LOST FRIENDS. SHE WAS A WEDDING COORDINATOR AT THE MISSION FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND BRIDES WOULD BECOME HER FRIEND AND CALL HER TO CHAT LONG AFTER THEY GOT MARRIED. SHE TAUGHT ME HOW TO STEAL FLOWER CUTTINGS FROM AROUND TOWN (MAINLY THE MISSION, SHHH) AND PLANT THEM IN HER YARD. SHE HAD A SUPERB GREEN THUMB FOR FRUITS, VEGGIES AND SWEET PEAS. SHE WAS EXTREMELY PROUD TO HAVE BEEN THE 8TH GENERATION IN HER FAMILY FROM SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO & LOVED HER TOWN. IF YOU COULDN’T DECIDE WHICH THING TO BUY, SHE WOULD SAY, “GET BOTH” AND THEN TREAT YOU TO IT. SHE LOVED TO GO TO LUNCH... “SOMEWHERE WE COULD SIT DOWN & BE WAITED ON.” SHE WAS THE STRONGEST LADY I’VE EVER KNOWN & SHE SWORE IT WAS BECAUSE SHE GREW UP CHOPPING FIREWOOD ON LOS RIOS STREET. SHE WAS FIERCELY INDEPENDENT AND WAS THE ONLY ONE OF HER GIRLFRIENDS TO LEARN TO DRIVE WHEN SHE WAS A TEENAGER BUT REFUSED TO PUMP HER OWN GAS HER ENTIRE LIFE. I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, SHE WAS MY NANA. ❤️
