On Monday, July 22nd, 2024, the venerable Bay Theatre in beautiful downtown Morro Bay is teaming up with 97.3/107.9 FM The Rock, your listener-supported non-commercial, freeform radio in our community, to bring a special screening of the iconic "Big Lebowski" to Morro Bay.

The classic Big Lebowski film has achieved mythical status, and as Cameron Wilson of the new Bay Theatre family said "This is a perfect movie for us to partner up and support the Rock, a unique, freeform, non-commercial local radio station, it's kind of like the rug that ties the Community together"

2024 Sunset Wine/Rail Excursions

The San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum is excited to announce the return of Wine/Rail Excursions and our 2024 schedule!
The 2024 Excursions will be on the following Saturdays:

May 18
June 22
July 20
August 17
September 21

These fully-hosted, docent-led excursions will depart from the SLO Railroad Museum at 11am taking a motor coach to the Santa Barbara Wine Collective, arriving around 1:00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided on the motor coach trip to Santa Barbara.

Following the roughly 1-hour wine tasting (6 wines), participants will have free time until 5:30pm sharp to visit Stearn's Wharf, cruise around more of the Funk Zone, explore lower State Street, eat early dinner at a restaurant, or buy food for the return Amtrak trip, etc.

The Amtrak Surfliner will depart Santa Barbara Train Station at 5:45pm and arrive in San Luis Obispo about 8:45pm after enjoying a Sunset train ride along the Pacific Ocean. Limited food choices are available from the onboard Amtrak Cafe.

Cost: $129/person. Space is limited.

The Laramie Project

CongregationHouse Productions is thrilled to present this Reader’s Theater presentation of The Laramie Project.

A breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

THE STORY: In October 1998, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised, and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay.

Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case, while others were citizens of Laramie, and the breadth of the reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie.

Why My805Tix?

For over 31 years New Times has been gathering and promoting a variety of events in SLO County (over 18 years for the Sun in No. Santa Barbara County). We’ve created a huge readership of over 150,000 that look each week to see what and where events are happening locally. When you couple that with the tens of thousands that follow our websites and social media outlets, that’s over 200,000 viewers.

Yet, when users found what to do within our calendars, we sent them off to fend for themselves to find tickets for the events. Often the experience was challenging and in some cases impossible. National services are available but often offer minimal logistical and definitely no marketing support to the organizations that use them. Furthermore, any fees from tickets sold using the national services (Eventbrite, Brown Paper TIckets, etc.) were pulling dollars out of our local communities and into their pockets.

Our partner in this venture, MyNorthMedia, is also a long-time media outlet who had a huge readership. Creating a one-stop hub for all of their clients not only made it easier for the organizations and their events more visible, but any fees were managed locally and kept within the community. It was hugely successful so they decided to offer the solution to select media companies around the country, including us. So far they have successfully implemented similar platforms in over 40 regional areas around the country.

We’re excited to announce that My805Tix is now a local ticketing platform that will be the regional hub for all events from Santa Ynez to San Simeon.
