History

FITE NITE started as a bare-knuckle elemination style boxing tournament held on the grounds of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, at the old Evans Liberal Arts building. Due to the increase in attendance the event was moved to the now-closed Hays County Civic Center. Due to an unfortunate and infamous altercation in 1987 involving over-zealous attendants, the event was forced to move away from the City of San Marcos, being held in various locations spanning from Southpark Meadows in Austin to Bluebonnet Palace Fairgrounds in Schertz, Texas. In the late 1990s, backed by a newly founded partnership with Jon Dickson Productions, the event was invited back to make its triumphant return to the Hays County Civic Center, which closed its doors in 2012. Left without a home once again, the event was held one block off of the San Marcos Square in the Spring of 2015, before finding its way in the Embassy Suites Ballroom in 2016. The venture with the Embassy Suites team is one that will ensure the event has a home for many years to come. The event showcases participants mainly consisting of students from Texas State Univsersity and other surrounding Universities. Past years have showcased bouts featuring participants from the Greek community, Texas State Football and Rugby teams, and the ROTC, along with participants sponsoring local boxing gyms and clubs spanning from Dallas to Laredo. In the early 2000s Fite Nite was proud to showcase its first girl-on-girl bout. Since then, the event production team has ensured that the girl-on-girl bouts have remained a staple of the event and have grown into the most anticipated bouts every year.
