Can’t believe I let the weekend go by without sharing this beauty! 😫😍

This arrangement is full of magic and meaning🔮 marigolds to attract spirits 👻, dahlias and celosia for guidance and protection 🛡️, and sunflowers with good intention to invite all the good energy 🫶

These kinds of arrangements are my favorite because they’re more than just flowers in a vase; they reflect someone’s spirit, passions, and beliefs.✨

Oh, and can we talk about that brass vase?! 🏺 Thrifting win! 🏆

Thank you for the beautiful picture of the flowers in their new home📸

This is my first sympathy arrangement 🕊️

Each flower, color, and detail was carefully chosen with the recipient in mind. Grief is a hard journey to endure, It is my hope this arrangement brings a bit of comfort. May the scents offer solace, the blooms bring back special memories, and the overall design warm their heart, even if just for a moment.

Flower pressing is a method for preservation, this method requires removal of moisture💧 and flattening of a specimen. which can be used for future art projects🖼️in past times, for decorating letters💌for study🔬or even just for fun🤩

Most brides today opt to preserve their bouquets, which is primarily done with silica gel and resin💐This method, I learned for study purposes📚 Fresno State collects observed plants🧐 to see how they’ve changed over time⌛️Each classes pressings are saved and digitally scanned 📸🖥️ then scans and in some cases real specimen, are made open for observation upon request for other researchers!

We were given a press (much larger than this one) and organized it first, ensuring we had the appropriate number of blotting sheets and cardboard. So here I do the same!
*this can also be done with some heavy books and wax paper/newspaper

Start with any flower or plant that catches your eye👁️👁️I liked this sunflower 🌻

Since my method was done for study, normally we’d fill a sheet with all its important information like its scientific name 🧪 common name🌻 key features 🔑 and anything else important.
*Optional if done for recreation🎨

Here’s how I did mine!
🫣I cheated a bit since Ive already done one for sunflowers,so on my sticky note/label I wrote:
🧪Helianthus annus *UNDERLINED
🌻Common sunflower
📏measured the plant I cut from at ~2ft
✂️📏 measured the cut piece at ~17mm
🔑 then keyed out the disk and ray florets and resin canals present! Since I find it cool 😎

This next part is easy peasy🫛

I made a press sandwich 🥪 with one cardboard and blotting paper on each side of my flower wrapped in wax paper, sunflowers are sticky🍯In the case I can’t dry my flower well enough, the wax paper and blotting papers will keep my flower from wetting💧 or in worse cases molding 😷into other ones. This is why we need two of everything.

The cardboard is the bread of our sandwich and goes last to do actual pressing. The strings are tightened, and voila!
*If done with books just make sure to check on it often!! They need air. Sandwich method is safest for pressings and books

Check back later to see how it went!

☀️Something bright, colorful, and fresh 💐

Small arrangements like this are my favorite! They come from a place of creativity 🎨and curiosity🧐This particular arrangement was done with a shallow and wide bowl, I kept asking myself “what if I did this?”, “would that look better placed here?…or there?” and ✨TA-DA✨

no chicken wire, no foam, no pins. Just gravity and the natural curve of the stems🤩 how neat is that!

A blooming flower that seems to find its way to me as of lately! 💜Hydrangeas🩵

These bushy blooms are big, bold, and transform an arrangement to be more robust and textured. 🪻
These flowers don’t take much to shine or make themselves known, in any environment! Many like to add soil amendments to Big Leaf varieties to change their color, acidic soils bring out more 💙blue🩵 the more alkaline present they pop in 🩷pinks💜!
Hydrangeas are often times a favorite to those with allergies as their pollen doesn’t drop like dust, its sticky and stays in place. Though this flower may not be a favorite for curious 🐱🐶pets, most hydrangeas contain cyanide chemicals in their leaves and can do danger if ingested ☹️
This flower may be cheating since there really aren’t any petals! The bright colors we see are sepals, like the green part under a rose! Sepals are the protectors of a flower, the actual flower part is that Liiiittle bead in the middle of the bright colors🌰🤏
After the last example of flower care, it’s important to note hydrangeas are troopers! They can last for days when well maintained, most like to dip the WHOLE flower in water, since they can absorb through their “petals” and essentially revive themselves or often times they are dried on accident when gone unnoticed until they are moved🤭
Hydrangeas may not be a fan favorite but they do hold a lot of meaning from when they were! Blue meant a great gratitude or understanding,😌Pink for affectionate red for romance🥰white was associated with bragging🫢purple was shared most between friends for great friendship👯‍♀️ funny how flowers talk without saying a word, don’t you agree?🤔

Our final flower day for roses, and a tad of U.S. History to go along with it🇺🇸

The United States loves roses so much, it became our national flower in 1986 (fairly new on paper but always deeply known since George Washington) 🌹🇺🇸 Roses were carved into columns at the White House and even featured in a garden which we know today to be THE White house rose garden. Every First Lady up to date has planted their own roses, or even added to the garden over the years since its original remodeling along with the Oval Office. This took the older garden/greenhouse/horse stable combo and turned it into the acres of flowers and great lawn we know today🌳🌷The rose garden today is a bit of a ceremonious place where briefings, state dinners, and official ceremonies take place. But it’s not all work in the gardens, they also act as casual grounds for the president and family to relax from their duties. The roses themselves are well maintained over the years and if one fails it’s promptly replaced in honor of its prior flowers. Roses recently planted were “J.F.K” and “Peace” roses along with classic white roses and other pastel blooms.

Roses are versatile, enduring, and everywhere we look, a true classic flower we have known to love and can distinctly identify just from smell alone. I hope you guys enjoyed learning about roses for the week! There was just too much to cover than to just do one single flower Friday🤭

Roses are constantly used in religious rituals and traditions✝️A tradition so pronounced like rosary making is a way we preserve roses and incorporate them into prayer 🙏 the name rosario comes from the Latin word rosarium which translates to garden of roses. Traditionally in medieval times churches would have their own gardens from which they would have monks make rosaries from baskets of petals, today most churches will use wilted flowers left for the saints. Though a rose petal bead won’t look like much, they hold such a powerful scent, after a small prayer of course😌🌹 the petals would be left to dry, crushed into a paste, and form a ball of clay. The beads would be made by pulling from the large ball of clay and placing a metal wire through the bead. If attempting, don’t force the drying time by placing them in the oven!! This leads to cracked beads and lacking rose scent in the beads. Rosaries aside, roses play a big part in most religions when bringing flowers to church, offering to saints or deities , or even in taking flowers to a cemetery. Roses are looked at as a divine flower due to their age and appearance in BC times along with long foretold symbolism

Rosaceae scientifically is a medium sized family in the plant world. With roughly 8,000 species and 91 genera, they seem to appear everywhere for us! APPLES 🍎 PEARS🍐 STRAWBERRIES 🍓 PEACHES🍑 ALMONDS . Pretty much most flowering fruits are rosaceae! Just like these fruits roses can also grow like a bush, or a large bush that essentially should be called a tree😂, a vine.. each variety of rose varying in scent, color, and shape.
Roses also have great culinary uses like jams and jellies, cakes and pastries🎂🥐The darker the petal the more pronounced the flavor 😌 but remove the white bases!! That small piece can’t give off a bitter taste😖Of course who can forget about teas☕️honeys🍯and syrups, often used for medicinal properties💉💊bartending🍾and homemade tea brews.
Teas in particular were used a lot to help aid in treating inflammation, helping regulate diabetes, lowering stress or soothing seizures, or in a way slowing aging👴
The most studied rose for medical uses was the Rosa canina, the dog-rose or climbing rose. Most roses are edible! But famously used for food purposes would be Rosa rugosa and Rosa arvenis.
Check out this neat illustration on identifying the Rosaceae family!

Roses are older than civilization itself, dating back to 2000 BC in the fertile crescent🌍We know this area today as Sirya, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, and in some studies Egypt. Primarily cultivated by the Chinese, Romans, and all throughout Europe, their beauty was so renowned they were fairly accepted as currency!🌹💰
My favorite part of rose history is its use in cosmetics and perfumery! 💄💨 the Romans bubbled rose water throughout their fountains and steeped fabrics in rose oils for their scent and skin properties. Queen Marie Antionette popularized using roses for perfumes 👃🥀Though it was the 10th century Persians who perfected the distillation of rose oil, one gram of the oil alone took TWO ✌️THOUSAND roses. Todays percentage of rose scent is in about 75% of feminine products and at least 10% of men’s👀 Even today with thousands of newer varieties of roses bred for color/size/scent you name it, the chemical compounds in roses are STILL too unique to mimic, a human nose can still distinguish a real rose oil from a synthetic scent and why wouldn’t we🤭 to this day we still stop to “smell the roses” 🌹

Oh, how I missed my flower Fridays🥹but I’m officially out from school for the summer and excited to talk about roses! So for this week, since roses have so many different facets to talk about, I will be changing Flower Fridays to Flower Week 🤭

Roses, we know them and love them, and Valentine’s Day is full of them. But roses are not just a symbol of affection for Valentine’s Day! They are also the official flower for Father’s Day🌹in 1909 Sonora Smart sought out a special day to recognize her father and his sacrifices as her sole parent growing up. June 19, 1910, marked her father’s birthday and the first-ever Father’s Day celebration in Spokane Washington. By 1956, Father’s Day was a U.S. recognized holiday in support of presidents since 1926, then permanently revised the third Sunday of June would be the observed date for Father’s Day.

Roses can be found in many colors and shades today, but the white🤍 or red❤️ rose is the recognized flower for Father’s Day. Red to honor the living, white to honor the deceased.

How will you be honoring your father or father figure this year?

Hello everyone! This is an announcement regarding Mother’s Day orders,

I first want to thank everyone’s support for entrusting me this Mother’s Day to create something special for your loved ones. We sold out of flowers quicker than we could put out🙊! we WILL be having more flowers for Sunday and Saturday evening orders💐

Although some bad news and clarifications need to be made☹️unfortunately my distributor never fulfilled my order for the advertised barro paper. I apologize in advance for not being able to provide the pictured items, I was just as excited to see them come in, as you all were to have it in your hands. That being said, I’ll be honoring the traditional hand painted method instead🎨🖌️please keep in mind this adds time for pickups and DoorDash.

Barro has been flying off the shelves as the frijoleras, cantaritos, and jarritas have been made popular this Mother’s Day🎉With this in mind, barro pieces will be assorted, but will not stray too far from advertised size, I assure you this will not cause change in pricing.

I appreciate everyone’s patience with these sudden changes. You guys leave me overjoyed to be blessed with the burden of having a high demand for flowers this Mother’s Day. You guys keep me inspired and ecstatic for future Lily’s Blooms endeavors💚

Thank you 🙏

This weeks flower Friday Dianthus/Pinks/sweet Williams!

These flowers are one of history! They are one of the very first to be used as cut flowers, in Ancient Greek times dianthus was claimed to be a flower of the gods as translated in latin and names by Theophrastus himself! 🏛️Sweet Williams were often used to make flower crowns for ceremonial events👑🌸 they even worked well for tonics to reduce fevers and indigestion🌱🧪

Not long ago I got to dissect Dianthus for school and got some pretty neat pictures! In particular we were looking at the flowers petal like stamen! (That’s the part with color usually) those staminodes also contain anthocyanins! (A fancy words for plant based pigment! Responsible for red, blue, and purple) if the flower looks familiar, that’s because they are also related to carnations!
