The Mother

One of my most favorite pieces of prose:

The most beautiful word on the lips of mankind is the word “Mother,”

and the most beautiful call is the call of “My mother.”

It is a word full of hope and love,

a sweet and kind word coming from the depths of the heart.

The mother is everything –

she is our consolation in sorrow,

our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness.

She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness….

Everything in nature bespeaks the mother.

The sun is the mother of earth and gives it its nourishment of heart;

it never leaves the universe at night until it has put the earth to sleep to the song of the sea and the hymn of birds and brooks.

And this earth is the mother of trees and flowers.

It produces them, nurses them, and weans them.

The trees and flowers become kind mothers of their great fruits and seeds.

And the mother, the prototype of all existence, is the eternal spirit, full of beauty and love.

How To Open an Artichoke

It’s simple… just insert foam pellets between the petals and let them sit for a while.

This arrangement features flax, bird of paradise foliage, a temple braid and that open artichoke.

Terrific Advanced Floral Designer class last week with the gorgeous tropical flowers and foliage from Green Point Nurseries, Inc and the fresh and fun temperate blooms from Mellano & Company. We wove, braided and designed from the heart.

Can't wait to see what this talented group of florists do in the future!

It's been an incredible month of July. Phil and Cathy each had a new variety of Anthurium name for them by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources of the University of Hawaii. Such wonderful honors! ❤️❤️

The new varieties will be available commercially in a year or so but you can read about their unique and long-lasting characteristics in the pics below.

Wonderful working with tropical flowers and foliage from Green Point Nurseries, Inc in our Advance Wedding Class last month. Students also enjoyed using an OASIS Floral Products North America Wire Armature as a base. 😀

The students’ final projects really showed their personal styles. 👏
