“It does not require many words to speak the truth.” – Chief Joseph

Chief Joseph (1840-1904) was a leader of the Wal-lam-wat-kain (Wallowa) band of Nez Perce, a tribe from the interior Pacific Northwest. He showed resistance against the United States and stood up for the right of his tribe to remain in their lands. Eventually Chief Joseph traveled the country, giving speeches about the injustices inflicted on his people after the United States forcibly removed the tribe from their lands in Oregon.

Today we celebrate the resilience of the many who similar to Chief Joseph stood up against the injustices inflicted by the United States.
