I was living in Australia when I turned 21 and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate that milestone than feeling the rush of skydiving. We climbed to 14,000 feet as we gracefully skimmed the coast of Torquay Beach. When they opened the door and the wind whipped across my face, the thrill of it all suddenly hit. Leaving all sanity behind, we leapt from the plane plummeting towards the earth

below. I thought I was going to have to forcibly keep my eyes open, but to my surprise I couldn’t close my eyes as I laughed and screamed hysterically the whole way down. Today I am able to look at my photos from that day and my heart still skips a beat thinking of the pure rush that was skydiving. That ability to relive that moment every time I look at the photos is one of the reasons I love photography so much. I want to give that gift to all those I capture on film. Whether it’s remembering a rush, a heartfelt moment, or always being able to look back and see what your babies looked like when they were first born. To me, that is the magic of photography.

I’m often asked if a sibling can join in someone’s senior portraits. And of course the answer is always yes! Often it’s the final sibling portrait they will have while living under the same roof 😭, so of course bring them! And I love hearing all the sibling stories from over the years too!

Their matriarch requested a four generations of women portrait for Mother’s Day and I was so thrilled they asked me to capture it. She sat there with tears in her eyes and told me how happy she was. Her genuine happiness still makes me want to cry.

The stages of a reluctant older sibling to join their new baby sibling. Love it every time. Not just the final perfect shot…all of it. Please never stress about siblings in the newborn session. I love to get them involved, they can help me wrap, settle and even take a picture our two themselves until they are comfortable with me. And if all else fails, we can use bribes. 🤣 A small bag of gummies can go a long way. 😉

I just wanted to take a minute to throw it back to this portrait as I prep for their six month session in their Watch Me Grow Package. I am asked all the time “how many portraits do we receive in our package”. Yes I know variety is important, but also I like to remind families to focus on quality as well. This one shot took about 30-45 minutes to just capture. Wrapping and settling the babies and gently encouraging siblings to join takes time. And on top of that I spent time/effort in post production stitching two portraits together to create the perfect sibling portrait. In the end it often comes down to those few perfect shots to print and display in your home. I look forward to having a blast with this crew again soon when all five will be on the move! 🫣🤣
