Here is the CUTEST image from the session we had last night at WSU, Pullman, WA. This is Melanie and her darling boy Dude. The weather was inclement when we arrived and so we took full advantage of the nice muted light and did a some black background photographs of them. Dude was such a model citizen and I left daydreaming of having my own dappled buckskin pony. So if any of my friends out there want to gift me a pony just like this, PLEASE DO and I will love you forever!
I have said this many times, but I think it bears repeating. I LOVE meeting new friends and love love love photographing horses and their people. It brings me much much joy. xoxo

Do you ever wonder what goes into "retouching" when you choose your proofs from a session with me?
Color Correction: Adjusting color balance, saturation, and contrast to match skin tones and make the image look more natural.
Skin Retouching: Smoothing out skin imperfections such as blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin tones while preserving texture and details.
Blemish Removal: Removing unwanted spots, pimples, scars, or other skin imperfections to achieve a flawless look.
Whitening Teeth and Eyes: Brightening teeth and eyes to make them appear whiter and more vibrant.
Reshaping and Resizing: Altering the shape and size of objects or features within the image, such as slimming down a subject or resizing elements for better composition.
Background Cleanup: Removing distracting elements or imperfections from the background to improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the image.
Adding or Removing Objects: Adding new elements to the image or removing unwanted objects to enhance the composition or storytelling aspect.
Sharpening and Detail Enhancement: Enhancing details and sharpening certain areas of the image to make them stand out more prominently.
Noise Reduction: Removing digital noise or graininess from the image, especially in low-light conditions or high ISO settings.
Color Grading: Applying specific color tones or effects to create a certain mood or atmosphere in the image.

Do you ever wonder what goes into professional portraits? It's a lot more than you would think! 🤩
Composition: This refers to how the elements within the frame are arranged. A good composition guides the viewer's eye through the image and creates balance and interest.
Lighting: Proper lighting is crucial for professional-looking photos. Whether natural or artificial, lighting can dramatically affect the mood, clarity, and overall quality of the image.
Focus and Sharpness: Professional photos are typically sharp and in focus, ensuring that the subject is clear and detailed.
Color Balance and Saturation: Colors should appear natural and balanced, with no one color overpowering the others. Saturation levels should be adjusted to enhance the vibrancy of the image without making it look unnatural.
Exposure: Proper exposure ensures that the image is neither too bright nor too dark, with details preserved in both the highlights and shadows.
Background: The background should complement the subject without being distracting. It should be free from clutter and other elements that might take away from the main focus of the image.
Post-Processing: Professional photographers often use editing software to enhance their images further. This can include adjustments to contrast, clarity, sharpness, and color correction.
Subject and Pose: The subject should be well-positioned and posed in a flattering manner. For portraits, this might involve directing the subject on how to stand or sit and where to look. Not to mention "ears forward" tactics.

Happy Spring to you! I haven't posted here in a while. I recently moved to a different state, which has been challenging but also presented opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Focusing on myself is something I haven't done in years, and it feels good.
Recently, I was able to travel back home for the birth of my daughter's c**t. What a special experience it was! I am grateful that I was able to capture some beautiful images of him. Isnt he the cutest thing ever??!

It's been a while since I've re-introduced myself here so.... Hi! I'm Jen. Thankyou for liking and following my photography page!
A little bit about me: I love photography and I love animals. Especially dogs and horses! I used to follow my 3 kids and 2 dogs around all over, snapping pictures of them (ask them, they are so over it!) and that turned into doing family photography and weddings.
Then, I put my 2 girls into riding lessons, I started photographing their events and quickly thereafter came equine portraits. Equine photography had me at hello you guys! I'd happily shoot horses going over fences for 12 hours on a 100 degree summer day rather than shooting an indoor air conditioned wedding. What is wrong with me?? haha! As of lately, I am branching out to include dog photo and video sessions as well and I am LOVING it! I am absolutely in love with dogs of all sizes, colors and ages ❤️
I always loved horses since I was a child and begged my parents to buy me a half wild Welsh pony named Rusty that I rode all over the place. It was the best time of my life.
I haven't ridden in recent years due to old neck injuries from a car accident and so my passion and purpose has been watching my kids ride and photographing them doing it.
It is still my love, passion and purpose to capture the bonds between people and their equine and canine partners. It brings me such joy and fulfillment to create lasting memories that you can cherish for a lifetime.
Recently, my husband and I moved to Northern Idaho as he took a new job up here. We love the area we are in. Coeur D'Alene, Id is so stunning and the people here are so friendly and welcoming! I still miss home but I am fortunate to be able to come and visit regularly.
I am excited to meet you and your dog and horse partners up here in Idaho and continue my love for equine and canine photography. Let's create some new memories ❤️❤️❤️

There is nothing quite like a bond between a dog and their hooman. It's an unconditional love, a friendship that is unwavering. Dog photography sessions are a beautiful way to preserve those special moments you share with your fur baby. I applaud families that prioritize getting their family portraits taken annually. It's not an easy feat, especially if you have a large family and/or older kids who have busy lives. But, I know it's 100% worth the effort!
I am fortunate that my talent and niche allows me to meet awesome families like the Bigler family. I hope that I made this experience fun and easy. I know that I always walk away from a session with a smile on my face and in my heart ❤️

I thought we were doing a session with family + dog, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE dogs. But, I was so pleasantly surprised to arrive and see Dia there as well! It was so fun to watch Dia attract so much attention at the park where we decided to do our session (major kudos to Madison for her excellent location choice!). People kept coming up to her saying, wow look at the horse! It makes me chuckle because I still do that every time I see a horse too! I love horses, dogs and people all together in photographs ❤️ Thankyou Bigler family for having me take more pictures of your beautiful family. It is so fun looking back on past sessions to see just how much I have learned. This session that I did with is still one of my all time favorites!
Although it was an amazing session, I can see that my aperture is wide open at f/2.0 with my 135mm lens that I absolutely loved at the time. I no longer have that lens because it didn't end up suiting my needs, and I can achieve 135 mm with my RF70-200 and get better results. I also don't feel like I have to shoot wide open all the time anymore.
I was also using my canon 5D M4, and unfortunately, that camera was hit and miss with focus, which drove me so crazy 🤪 It trained me to "over shoot". I would take a lot of pictures to make sure I got the perfect focus. But, with my mirrorless camera, canon R5, that I shoot with now, focus is rarely missed. 😎
The more you learn, the more you know ❤️. Technology rocks!
