If you've been wondering what you might be forgetting about your photo session the answer is clear.... the dog! Is your dog invited to your photo session? Bring them! Do we need to chat a bit about if before hand to make plans if we need an extra set of hands? Yes, lets!

A few years ago, I penned a blog post titled ' The one color I don't think you should wear to your photo session... Green'. In fact that post seemed to have caused quite the stir with a few people. have a changed my mind. Yes. I've photographed all sorts of beautiful people wearing green ( and every other color!) since I first wrote those words.

Do I still think that green can make you blend into the background in a way you might not love? Yep. I sure do.
Do I think that having a well placed green tone is the perfect solution? You betcha.

Long story short? Wear the green. Wear it proudly. But also, let's discuss what the backdrop for your photos might look like so we can help make sure the color green you choose is just perfect for your photos.

Happy First Day of School to all who celebrate! Our 2.5 month long summer has come to an official end and it's feeling a bit like a New Year over here! Nothing feels like 'fresh start' quite like the beginning of a new school season. 🚌✏
It makes us giggle reading all the back to school picture books because they always feature fall leaves, and sweaters on the students. 🍁🍂 Quite the opposite experience for those of us in the Southeast who are still deep into the summer months, ( and will be for a few months still!) and will be jumping in the pool as soon as school gets out!

So for those who are packing backpacks, organizing pencil cases and stocking the pantry with snacks, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I spent YEARS calling myself a 'natural light photographer' every time someone asked what I do. Did I photograph in natural light? I sure did! Completely not a lie. Did I call myself that because I was terrified someone might want me to photograph with artificial light?! Sure was. Mortified. Lights? Flashes? On camera vs Off?!?!?!? Way too much to know. Way too much to understand and way over my abilities.

I spent years being wrong. I can photograph in any kind of light and have proven that to myself over and over again this past years as I've chased families at sunset and carried big studio lighting setups to events around town. These days I'm just a photographer of all things, and I love this level of confidence.

Thanks so much to Matt at for an amazing lighting workshop last spring. The first of many of his I hope to take! Learning, growing and changing is half of the fun of being an artist. 📸🎨

You know who needs a photo shoot? Your puppy. Why? Because they are the very best companion in your home and they so often are left behind when you all get dressed and head out for a photo session. All family members are welcome here. Just remember to let me know ahead of time so we can pick the best ( dog approved!) location for your photos. 😁

Just a friendly little reminder that I am not just a family and branding photographer, I'm also an event photographer. Question: “Do I get a black and white version of every image in my gallery?”

Short answer: Nope.
Longer answer: Because black and white images deserve more intention than just slapping a filter on top. ( PLEASE promise me you won't do that!)
I used to deliver both versions—color and black and white—for every image in a client’s gallery. But eventually, I realized it didn’t feel true to how I tell stories. Black and white isn’t just a filter—it’s a mood. It shifts the feeling of a photo. Some images? They shine in black and white. They feel gritty, raw, timeless. Others? Not so much. Especially beach sessions or certain park locations where color makes the photo pop. The images that come back in your finished gallery that are black, and white? Those are the photos that were given a little extra love because they deserved it. 😍😊

📸 What actually happens during a beach photo session?

Great question, we’ll chase the light, splash in the waves, and capture your family just as you are. Expect plenty of movement, giggles, sandy toes, and relaxed moments—not just stiff poses to keep things easy and fun, even if we’re stretching bedtime. My biggest secret? I love letting the kids get wet and sandy. Everyone is happier at the beach, no matter the time of day. 😉
