Can we talk about this photo?! 😍❤️🌞 These are my sweet neighbors and when we started planning their family session I texted her to say, ' Would you trust me and we can head down to our neighborhood dock? I just feel like it will be gorgeous!' Thankfully she trusted me because when we walked down there we found the MOST gorgeous sunset. The clouds were fully performing for our sessions. In face these are the 100% real clouds! No AI editing has been done to the clouds at all! ( though there is a little face swap magic ✨)
Here's the thing, so many of us have neighborhood docks here in the lowcountry. Have you been down there taking in some deep breaths and enjoying the view and thought to yourself, 'Man this is such a photogenic spot.' Well let's put your idea to the test! We're in peak sunset season if you ask me so let's enjoy all this beautiful place has to offer!

I know the brief called for close ups of the clothes for this boutiques winter collection so they could fill their marketing campaigns with gorgeous photos of their pretty things, but I couldn't resist sneaking in a photo I was taking just for me. The colors? The sun flare? That BEAUTIFUL lady? Yeah this image was less commercial and more art but my goodness if the editorial vibes in this photo aren't killing.

Hearing the words ‘it’s cancer’ felt so foreign at the time. This happens to other people but not to us, not to someone as young as her. Unfortunately cancer doesn’t hand pick who it affects and how much it impacts them. Lowvelo is an annual bike ride to raise money for Cancer research at Holling’ Center, South Carolina’s only cancer center and local to us here in Charleston. Annalee was the most amazing soul and we miss her everyday. Please donate below to support our ride for her today! (Link in stories and bio!)

I have to share with you the funniest story! Most of the locations I photograph in are public spaces, like this park I recently met a family at. They arrived at the same time as a man and his dog who were also there to enjoy the park. The man proceeded to take a seat near the entrance and leave his sweet dog to her own devices. She was very friendly, but also not a member of the family I was photographing. She followed us during the whole session including sitting right next to the family during their portraits. I of course cropped her out and let her stay with us until the point where I really needed her to ski-daddle and clear the background. ( because, can I yell at someone else's dog?) 😆😂
I'm also a dog owner and I happen to know that my dog is quite sweet, but strangers don't know that ya know? Leaving my dog to adventure without me, when there are people around who are clearly taking pictures, isn't a choice I would make. What about keeping the dog close to you on other side of the park? Just maybe? She was a cutie but I assume she doesn't have thumbs, doesn't have social media and won't be seeing that she's been cropped out of all of the finalize photos. 😂😅 If you run into her on a public park around here you won't tell on me will ya?

Four years ago I forced my family to do something a little silly that became a bit of a tradition for us. A family costume, always chosen in honor of some great ensemble cast we watched during that year. While I'm busy editing the photos for our big costume reveal this year, how about a look back at the last 4 years of costumes?

In 2021 I was wandering through an antique store when I saw this cute Halloween cape. I had no plan for it but knew I needed to buy it. That same year I photographed my oldest in the woods near our house in it for fun-sies. The next year I photographed my youngest in it. I can hardly believe these photos are 2 and 3 years old, which means these two girls are not this little anymore. 😭😫 Feels like this is a good year for a re-do on these photos doesn't it?!

I've been busy editing the adorable photos from Callum's photo session last week. Let me just be the first to say it, and say it loudly 3 month photo shoots are better then Newborn. 😍 I mean the newborn photos are so important! Babies change so much and you want to capture all that sweet newness right away, but a 3 month old baby knows what they want. They have personality and opinions and being able to capture that is just a dream.

I got to spend some time this morning with quite possibly, the sweetest babe there ever was. He was smiles from ear to ear the entire time I was there, and in turn I left with the biggest smile myself. Something about that new baby energy just feels so invigorating. 💙💙

We are in Nutcracker season! 🩰 While our weekends are back to being spent at the ballet studio I've been thinking about how lucky I was to be able to photograph the Spring Performance for these dancers last year. The Nutcracker season goes right into Spring season which means most of these dancers give up their weekends to be together, learning choreography and making sure their performance is ticket worthy! They work so hard as a team, but even more they have the very best time supporting each other and building their friendships over the course of the year. I am not a dancer myself ( see any IG reel I've ever posted 😅😅 ) which just makes my appreciation for how much work they put in even higher! I'm so excited to see what they've put together in just a few short weeks on the Nutcracker stage and then it's off to prep for the big show!

Recently I had the opportunity to join on a little tour of some of their lesser known ( to me) parks around downtown Charleston. The landscaping and foliage around the Charleston area is something that first attracted me to the area and the hard work the Conservancy puts in to keep our parks looking photo ready is obvious! I'm on the hunt for some new and different locations for photo backdrops around the area and thanks to our tour I have a list of them I'm excited to start meeting clients at soon!
I have also become a Charleston Parks Conservancy photographer partner, meaning that I will take every effort to make sure that I leave the parks as I find them. You won't be finding any stray confetti or balloons after I leave a park and you can be sure I'm going to do my best to keep these parks looking as good and cared for when my clients and I leave a session as they were when we arrived!
