I was so honored to be apart of the celebration for this sweet couple yesterday. I've known John for over 30 years and being able to not only watch him and Gretchen transition their long love into marriage but to save all the memories of the day for them in photos felt like such a gift. These two sure know how to throw a party and I can't wait to share photos of their ceremony and great big party but to hold you over while I get busy editing through those, a small peek at some of their formal portraits. 🥂 Congratulations John & Gretchen!!! 🩵🩵

I was so excited at the beginning of the month to join .minded.chs for their monthly Circle up and Grow event. I was lucky enough to meet so many great female business owners, photograph a bit of the action and also participate with them. Of Course photos of everyone looking directly at the camera and smiling are super special, but you know what else is special? A photo that captures the SPIRIT of your family. I think 20 years from now you'll see that smiling photo and be happy, but you'll see that photo of your family having fun together and laughing and you'll FEEL happy. You'll feel that same happiness you felt in that moment together. 💜 💜

Mom had one big goal, get the family photo in before her kiddos packed up for college, zipped up their backpacks and were off in different directions. Knowing she has these photos of all her loves together makes me smile so big. It's hard being a Mama and sending those baby birdies off into the world! 💙💙

You know what I don't talk enough about? My event photography! I call myself a 'small event photographer' but what I mean by that may frankly be a little unclear. I love to photograph an intimate affair, dinner parties, elopements, anniversary gatherings, corporate holiday events, religious ceremonies, birthday parties.... okay I suppose 'small events' is maybe not as accurate as I once thought. 😅
Sarah knew exactly what I meant though because when she reached out looking for photographs of their elopement celebration I squealed with delight! I love a not-so-traditional wedding and the ones I've photographed have always topped the list as some of my favorite events. Sarah & John's celebration was no different. Their friends and family welcomed me with open arms and I loved getting to celebrate right along side them.
I finally blogged just *some* of the photos from this event ( because boy do I stuff those event galleries full of pretty pictures!) and can't wait for these images to finally be out in the world! Comment PARTY and I'll send you the direct link to the full blog post!

Sometimes exploring is more fun then standing still and smiling, and that is perfectly okay by me! Letting them explore the space we're at is a great way to create an instant ( and candy free!) bribe 🍬🍭 (Let's take 3 pictures and then take a break for more digging!) and it creates photos that are such a wonderful representation of who your kiddos are in this exact moment, at this exact age. They won't always find crawly critters interesting but don't you worry because I'm not going to drop the camera and miss out on the opportunity to capture those sweet excited smiles however they come during our session! 🦀

Tropical Storm Debby stole a few days of swimming away from us and with school right around the corner the weekdays of all day swimming are numbered. Luckily we live in the south which means we’ve got lots of swimming between weekend fall activities in our future. 🤿🛟

I've been having the most fun with some extended families on town for vacation these last few weeks. These big sessions are some of my favorite because our annual summer vacations spent with our big group of favorite people are what power us through the next year! I hope some of the photos these families have to mark their time together will help keep them powered up until next summer as well!
Each Sept I sift through all of the photos from our summer and select a bunch to print. I replace all our picture frames and hang all of the best memories in each of my kids rooms so when they're deep in school and sports they can look at those photos and enjoy a moment of that summertime vacation love once again. Just your (once again!) reminder to PRINT THE PHOTOS FOLKS!

Once a year my entire family gets together. My parents, all 4 of us siblings, my husband, and the 5 grandkids. (though we are missing one very cool spouse) Between dinner and an intense 8 person Rummikub game we headed out to my parents backyard to get some photos. I was able to capture these all myself thanks to a tripod for the photos I'm in, some fart jokes for the photos I'm not and the most amount of patience that is required of me from any session. 😆 (My sisters grew up with selective hearing of my voice and my kids are now busy perfecting that skill--joking. Kind of 😉) In all seriousness, these nutballs showed up ready to smile and now having these updated photos for our walls is such a gift and seeing these everyday is such an amazing reminder of how big our love is, and how lucky we are to have each other. I love all of these faces!! ❤️❤️
This is a great time to mention that whenever people tell me I'm tall I have to stop and think for a second because.. am I? See in my family I'm actually quite average. 😅 Just a pile of long legged tall people over in our house!

Summer was so sweet for these two and I can't wait to see how their relationship continues to bloom into fall with a few hours of schooling and away from each other each day. 😆

We went on vacation last week to the Outer Banks. ( BTW 😍) I hadn't made any grand plans, but shortly after we arrived I shut the laptop, put down my phone and spent 7 glorious days completely unconnected from the real world. 10/10. Highly recommend. What a wonderful chance to recharge. Now I'm returning home to some of my favorite family coming to town for the next few weeks. My photography to-do list keeps growing and I'm not feeling nearly as guilty about ignoring it as I should. It will still be there in a few weeks when the kids go back to school and I've got all day to actually get some work done. For now though I'm leaning all the way into summer and all the way into taking some deep breathes along side my girls and truly being in summer with them. I am still taking photos and I am still dancing along the shore with clients, I'm just slacking on doing anything in the way of sharing any of that work. That's okay. It'll still be there ready to share when I get down to the administration work. 🌤
If you're in town I'll catch ya at the pool. Or at the park. Or in the beach, but I'll definitely covered in sunscreen and looking very uninformed about this thing you call 'work'. 😉😂
P.S. On our vacation I did manage to take photos of my favorite friends including this cute couple. The annual vacation family photos for our chosen family are some of my favorite shoots of the year and boy I cannot wait to edit all those photos. I mean, This couple... 🔥🥵🥰

My last post caption was sarcasm. I’m a small business owner entrepreneur which means I have no actual office and I’m never out of it 😂. I’ve only had my new camera (a Go Pro Hero 12!) for two totally days and so far I’m hook line and sinker obsessed. I have SO much to learn about how to use this thing and so, so much to learn about how to edit these photos but it’s been a long time since I had a personal project and since I’ve debated buying this camera for years I am very excited to finally have it in my hand and to have some fun! Keep watching here because I hope I’ll have so many great shots to share.

Last year this family and I dodged crazy lightning storms and managed to have the very best time capturing some amazing family memories. Let's just say, there was some (self-inflicted) pressure this year to match how much fun we had last! 🌊☀️The weather was perfect, the location was gorgeous and once again this family showed up full of love and ready to show it off. Another successful annual family photo on Folly Beach in the books for these 7 cuties! 🩷🩵😄

This past Monday I had the honor of photographing the Bat Mitzvah of a very special young woman. I loved getting a front row seat not only into the special ceremony, but also into the love and community that surrounds this sweet girl. I can't wait to spend some time re-visiting the event as I edit through the photos and I know her Mom is going to love having such special moments captured to enjoy time and time again. 🩷

It wasn't supposed to rain, but boy did it rain. Only made sense that we took advantage of the gift of puddles by having some fun in them during their family photo session. Can we all agree, the giggles of a child jumping in a puddle are like no other. ☔️🌦
I love that Mom will now have these very informal images of her girlies living their very best lives. These photos show off their personalities and capture exactly who they each are today. ❤
Given the fact this was our reschedule session after the first was rained out, and then the clouds did us dirty after seeing a less then 5% chance of rain, I'd say this is exactly how you make lemons out of lemonade. 🍋💦
