Simply Saratoga Springs

Simply Saratoga Springs I am constantly amazed at how far sighted Saratogians are. I thrill in events, fireworks, horse race I grow culinary, medicinal, and ceremonial herbs.

Joseph Simone painted the painting Backstretch. My heart goes out to the horses this week in these terrible, scorching days of summer in Saratoga Springs, New York.

We drove by the Annandale Mansion today. I am reminded that this building's stonework was done by my 2nd Great Uncle, Owen Reynolds. The mansion is on the corner of Clinton Street where I live. Now that is something. Copyright Ksan Moody.

The Saratoga Community Garden awaits me at Wesley Retirement Community next to Embury Apartments. This morning some of us are weeding and I plan to chop down the invasive species of white thistle, common reed, and pink loosestrife.

Saratoga Racing Season is BACK and open to fans!
The DBA, with the generous support of Special Assessments District and NYRA, are excited to host Celebrate Saratoga!
Join us Downtown on July 15th from 6:30-8:30pm for a night of LIVE music and celebration!
Local bands will be playing all around Downtown Saratoga on Opening Day at the track! Listen to Hot Club Saratoga, Erin Harkes Big Band, Seth Warden and Company, Jacksland, Pat Decker, and MORE!!
Make sure you check out the storefront windows during the Racing themed window decorating contest!! Businesses will be decorating their windows, where they will then be judged and a winner will be announced on NYRA TV!

Sounds like I want to go if not too hot. I can take the late afternoon bus right to downtown and stroll around or go for a bite to eat before the event if I have time to kill.

Today I went with some friends to the Saratoga Senior Center for a fundraising Flea Market and cookout and music under a large tent. Lots of shade to enjoy the music and cookout with Frank at the grill. What a great time everyone had. We were raising money for the Senior Center. The staff does so much good for the older citizens of Saratoga Springs. Let's give a shoutout to Saratoga Senior Center.

I did see lots of Common Milkweed growing in the gardens around the Center to support the Monarch Butterfly. Milkweed is the host plant. Bravo! Photo Monarch Butterfly copyright Sundara Jordan.

I am disappointed to see an old motel downtown being painted black. What is this? Then I looked down the street and the front of a new building is standing proud as a structure that keeps the Saratoga Springs look of value and design to fit in to the Victorian design. While I was in the Saratoga Community Federal Credit Union, I could see the back of building that is either grey/black and then white brick. It is awful looking. Can you imagine paying high rent and seeing this eye sore from your balcony on Railroad Place? Where is the Saratoga Design and Planning Committee or someone who could have voted down these exceptions to the rule? Something should be done. I am disappointed.

I was downtown today and tried out a place at https://www.thepalettecafe.com/about/ It is called Palette Cafe at 493 Broadway. The staff really made me feel welcome. I loved the experience. The outdoor lawn area with comfortable furniture to sit and relax in is awesome. It is like going to a lawn party. The sun was shining and it was warm and inviting. I am going to make it my favorite cafe on Broadway. That is how welcoming the cafe is. Give it a try. Palette Cafe is a few doors away from the US Post Office. It is near a CDTA bus stop too across the street.

Palette is more than a cafe. It’s a place that celebrates culture, shared ideas and connections. Palette Cafe is a space where everyone in the community is welcome. It’s a hospitable place to grab a great cup of coffee, a quick lunch or a cocktail.
