The Dance Hall Monthly is being organized by Suzi & the Do-Si-Do's, described as "a dynamic band based in Central Maryland that play a vibrant mix of vintage and old-timey country, Western Swing, and Americana with toe-tapping sides of H***y Tonk, bluegrass, rockabilly, and rock 'n' roll". Here's a story just right for Valentine's Day: Baldwin Hall brings people together - and sometimes that turns into love! Nick and Regina first met at the Hall in October 2023, when they started dance lessons with Gottaswing. The Hall was also where Nick asked Regina to be his girlfriend the following month, so it was the perfect location for Nick's proposal in December 2024. She said Yes!, and they captured this joyous photo announcing their engagement. We wish them many happy years together!

Lots of people rave about the Hall's beautiful wooden floors and how wonderful they are for dancing. We're so excited to announce that the band is organizing a monthly first Thursday dance hall! A dedicated and fun group of volunteers braved the cold for the first Baldwin Hall work night of the year! 2025 work nights will be the third Thursday of each month (except June and December) from 6 to 9 p.m.

Last night the Hall's volunteer board gathered in the conference room and via Zoom for our annual board meeting. Here are some impressive 2024 numbers:

- 740 volunteer hours (including 3rd Thursday community work nights [there's one this evening at 6 pm!], on the annual 7K fundraiser, and board members' time)
- 77 private rentals (weddings, parties, showers, and more)
- 39% of private uses are community members and non-profits
- 257 recurring events (community meetings and celebrations, classes, summer camps, church services, etc.)

We're looking forward to working with the community in 2025 on keeping our building maintained and serving as a vital gathering place for private and public use. Together we're Savage!

Santa Heim, Merryland: A Savage Christmas Story
Did you know that after Savage Mill ceased operation as a cotton mill in 1948, it became a Christmas ornament factory for a few years? In fact, the owner wanted to turn the town into a year-round Christmas village. Baldwin Hall served as a toy store, and Baldwin Common, the small adjacent park, housed a circus and a herd of reindeer! Learn more about this brief but fascinating period in the Mill's and town's history via an exhibition (on display through Jan. 10), lunchtime talk (Friday, Dec. 13, 12pm), and walking tour (Sunday, Dec. 15, 1pm), all at Savage Mill. Organized in cooperation with the Savage Historical Society.
