It was hot and there was poor planning on my part, but it was great to see everyone! Next year the reunion will be in New Haven, KY. Date options coming soon!

Here is the latest update for today's reunion in Hodgenville. Let's plan to meet at the Pavillion at 1 pm and go from there. Because it's going to be hot there have been suggestions to go somewhere cooler. We're not familiar with the area so maybe someone else has an idea. We'll decide when we get there. We'll post another update once we meet, if we decide to go to another location. Thoughts? Thank you.

Suggest minimal food for tomorrow. Too hot to cook. Shelter reserved. 1 pm.

Good news folks! Last change, I promise. Sandra just heard back from the guy who handles reservations (he had been on vacation) and we have reserved the picnic shelter across from the Lincoln Memorial Park there in Hodgenville. Yea! This is the one Maryann had pointed us to. Here is a map of the area and the shelter is across the street from the Memorial, but I bet you all know that.
Anyhow, we reserved it for the entire day but I'm thinking it might be good to shoot for 1pm. Thoughts? Spread the word. Anyone want to coordinate for food?

Hi everyone. So, Sandra and I (and Georgia and Kelly) are arriving in Bardstown this coming Friday (7/12) night and will be staying at a hotel in town Friday and Saturday nights. That gives us Saturday to get together somehow and somewhere. We'd like to get to Stiles on Saturday to visit mom's birth home (River Road?) where Maryann took us last summer but I can't seem to get up with her. I'll keep trying. I also want to get to the Lincoln stuff Saturday morning in Hodgenville because Georgia and Kelly have never been there. Then I'd like to attend church at Union Band Baptist Church in Stiles on Sunday morning. We will leave KY on Sunday after church and head to W.VA. and Ohio.
Sandra has reached out (email and phone calls and left messages) for the parks folks in Hodgenville but cannot get any responses. So, we'll have to meet on the fly. We can also meet in Bardstown on Saturday afternoon (informally) if anyone is available. I'm sorry for not having done a better job at planning this one. It's been a chaotic summer with challenges with both Sandra's elderly mom and my elderly cousin on the Shore. Anyhow, I will most more later.

FYI, I am going to try and print copies of the McNear family tree (back to Scotland) to give to everyone.

Ok, folks, the 13th is coming up in a few weeks. I have not had any success securing a park/shelter site since I don't know much about what is available and the Hodgenville Parks and Rec website is not very helpful. It was easier to plan last year since I was a little more knowledgeable about Scottsburg. I have struggled this year with some unforeseen issues that have really messed up my summer schedule. So, we are still planning to be in Hodgenville on the 13th as planned. We will arrive that Friday, check into the Air B&B, and stay around Hodgenville on Saturday (13th). We are staying there Saturday night and hope to go to church Sunday morning in Stiles (the Union Band Baptist Church). After church, we will leave for West Virginia. So, all that to say that we will probably not have a formal reunion BUT we will be there and maybe some of us could get together for lunch or dinner. There may be a park nearby that doesn't require a formal reservation where we could just meet. Thoughts? Ideas?

I think our reunion this year may end up being very low key. We will be there on the 13th and I'm still trying to find a location. Does anyone have Mary Ann's phone number? I seem to have lost that. PM me if you have it. It's been a rough summer but the show must go on.

Ok, folks. The 13th it is. Now we need to decide on a location. Does anyone know which park (s) around Hodgenville have a shelter and would be preferable?

OK, folks. I think we finally may have gotten this summer figured out a bit! Would Saturday, July 13th work out for everyone for the McNear Family Reunion in Hodgenville? It's been a struggle to get a handle on the summer schedule, but the 13th would work for us. Please reply to this thread and let me know.

If this date does work, can someone help me with a location and other logistics? I know that Maryann pointed out 1 a few parks around town that might work. One of them was across the street from the Lincoln Memorial, I think. We probably need somewhere where we can have a roof (shelter) in case of rain and a grill that we can cook on.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks.
Paul

Hi, everyone. Over the years I have heard several folks say McNear is Irish. It is not. McNear is Scottish. William McNear was born in Scotland in 1735, as were his McNear ancestors before him. He worked his way across the Atlantic, down into Virginia, and then over into Kentucky. If you use the Family Search website you can set up a free account that will allow you to search Lloyd E. McNear back along our McNear Family Tree where you can see the lineage from us straight back to Scotland. If you need help doing this just let me know and we can Zoom. So, while I love the Irish and Ireland for sure, our McNear ancestry is Scottish.

Trying to make some adjustments for the 2024 McNear Family Reunion. Some unexpected events on our end have really complicated our summer planning. We are still hoping for a reunion in Hodgenville and will keep everyone updated as soon as we can. I apologize for the delay.

So, we've been quiet on here for the past few months. Are we still having the McNear 2024 Reunion this June in Hodgenville?

01/13/2024

Time to start planning the reunion in Kentucky!

12/11/2023

Just wanted to wish each of the McNear clan an early Merry Christmas and the absolute best wishes for 2024.
In January I will be on this site more as we begin planning the 2024 reunion in Hodgenville! I'm excited and looking forward to seeing everyone there, so please, please plan to attend! Let everyone in the family know about this page and ask them to join. The more, the merrier!
By the way, a shout out to all of the Kentucky McNears who are decendents of Paul Leslie McNear. Tomorrow, 12/12, is my birthday and as I was born on his birth month/day, so my mother named me Paul Leslie Ewell! How cool is that!

Hope everyone is doing well! Hot here at the beach. Please be thinking about the reunion next June in Hodgenville. Need names of possible shelters/meeting spaces. Please make sure to share our page with all McNear relatives! Keep in touch. Stay cool.

Thinking about Saturday, June 1st of 2024 for the next McNear Family Reunion. Those who want could attend church the next day at the Union Band Baptist Church in Stiles.

If this date works (hopefully not too hot yet), we could then start to look for a reunion location around Hodgenville. This date is also far enough in advance that folks can plan ahead of time.

Thoughts?
