Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a popular method among many bloggers and independent news organizations online. SEO is a practice used to gain more traction and viewership to an article or website organically, or without paid ad boosts. Different strategies like including relevant keywords, hashtags, descriptive headlines, or easy-to-read URLs are all organic ways to get better results on search engines. However, with more people turning to ads and paid clicks, there is a question of whether or not SEO is still a viable effort to pursue.

Ad placements that boost a website or article are useful for both search engines and websites. Search engines such as Google make revenue from ad sales, and websites are able to generate more attention and top search results. This is beginning to deter attention from organic efforts, as search engine owned websites and paid clicks are becoming more common, and more articles are being boosted to the top search results. This results in a sizable amount of organic articles being pushed to the side.

The bottom line is, SEO is not dying yet. While ad placements are common, organic efforts using SEO is still a promising way to boost a website. Using strategies such as hashtags and descriptive words, articles can still gain viewership without turning to ads.
