It’s easy to dive headfirst into venue tours and Pinterest boards—the creative side of wedding planning is so much more exciting than number-crunching or deciding who makes the guest list. But take it from me, both as a former bride and as a wedding planner who’s had heart-to-heart talks with countless brides: you must establish your budget and guest list first.

Why? Because skipping this step leads to heartbreak—falling in love with venues or ideas that simply don’t fit your reality. Here’s how to set yourself up for success:

*Ask Yourself These Budget Questions*

1. What is your ideal wedding budget?

2. What is most important to you?

Is it having all your friends and family there?

Is it the design and décor?

Your dream dress?

The venue of your dreams?

A hosted bar for your guests?

3. What areas are you flexible on?

1. Where do you want to get married? (City and state)

2. Will your ceremony and reception be at the same location?

3. How many guests do you plan to invite?

4. How many guests do you anticipate will actually attend?

5. How many children and under-21 guests will attend?

“Amy & Nick’s destination wedding was an absolute dream! The Royal Palms was the perfect retreat for their friends and family to surround them with love and celebrate. From the minute I arrived on the wedding day, Amy had the absolute biggest smile on her face and it never left! Her infectious laugh could be heard by all and it was such a joy to witness how happy these two were.

Their friend Kevin officiated the ceremony and it was the most heartfelt, sweet, hilarious and endearing ceremony I have ever witnessed. Their choice of florals and greenery complimented the beauty of the venue incredibly well. When it came time to party, this group definitely knew how to do that! The dance floor was full all night with Amy & Nick right in the middle. The bridesmaids performed a surprise choreographed dance to ‘Wanna Be’ by The Spice Girls and it brought down the house! As we begin to shake off our Christmas comas, I thought you might appreciate a few productivity tips to help streamline your wedding planning journey:

1. Create a Wedding-Specific Email Account
You might be surprised by how many emails are exchanged during the planning process. Having a dedicated email account keeps all wedding-related communication organized and prevents it from getting lost in your personal inbox. Bonus: It’ll be easier to share access with your partner or planner if needed!

2. Set Designated Planning Hours
Planning can quickly take over your free time if you let it. To avoid burnout, designate specific hours each week for wedding tasks. Decide how much time feels "enough" and stick to it. This not only helps maintain balance but also keeps the process enjoyable.

3. Batch Your Questions and Details in Emails
When communicating with vendors or your planner, try to consolidate your questions and updates into a single, well-organized email. This saves everyone time and ensures that nothing important gets overlooked.

12 years ago today, my world changed forever. On December 26th, 2012, my baby girls, Hannah and Emma, were born.

While I had dreamed of being a mama, I never fully understood what it meant to love unconditionally, deeply, and all-encompassingly until I held them in my arms.

Having twins brought countless blessings, but one of the most pivotal was the decision to leave my corporate career to care for them. Financially, it made sense, but in my heart, I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not only to raise my girls but to build a dream of my own.

With my tiny twosome by my side, we grew the J.Starr Wedding Company together. They were — and still are — my lucky starrs, guiding me, inspiring me, and reminding me that dreams can coexist. Being a mama and building a business became one shared journey, with their love and laughter fueling me every step of the way.

So, Happy 12th Birthday to my beautiful girls, my dreamers, my everything. I will always support your dreams, just as you’ve allowed me to chase mine. I’ll always extend grace and understanding in life’s ups and downs, just as you’ve taught me to. And I’ll forever remind you of your incredible gifts, just as you remind me of mine.

Thank you, Hannah and Emma, for being my daughters. Here’s to your 12th year of life — may it be filled with joy, adventure, and love. Keep shining bright, my little loves.

“Alice & Brian’s wedding was held on the most beautiful Arizona day at the Omni Montelucia. Their wedding day was a complete reflection of their love. There was an easy going flow from the first look with personal vows, to fun with bridal party & family photos with their guests from all periods in their life.

Alice’s design was simple & elegant with subtle touches of red and gold to compliment her heritage and signify luck. Alice wanted a bouquet that she could keep forever as a keepsake, and in the process of finding a dried floral bouquet, we were connected with Hadley + Wren. The owner was so incredible to work with that Alice decided to use her for the entire floral design. It did not disappoint!

“…every single person who witnessed Lindsay and Dave’s special day, can tell you, it was the most pure and genuine love you will come across!

Lindsay and Dave are no strangers to hosting events at their home in NY, and wanted their wedding to be another day they hosted, but on an elevated level! They didn’t skip a beat with having a wonderful cocktail hour that was dressed up with eye catching conversational pieces accompanied by delicious hand passed hors d’oeuvres ! At their reception, guests enjoyed dinner under the evening sky with romantic bistro lights and a lit cozy fire place, and the reception was dressed with lovely wild flowers all throughout! Their creative and stunning mountain scape cake was topped with the best yeti toppers that Lindsay and Dave said, “Resembled their personalities and it was completely expected amongst all!” It was an epic talking point, they nailed it!

They enjoyed their dancing reception with an outfit change, glow foam sticks, and a disco ball! The dance floor stayed packed the entire night! This was THE party that everyone had been waiting for and no one was going to waist a second! These two were absolutely meant to become husband and wife! Though Brittany & Tristan did not see each other before the ceremony, they both found ways to make each other feel special and share moments together while they were apart. Brittany & Tristan both have a love for music & dancing and this was evident throughout the night! “Ahh! I absolutely adored Christina and Tim! From the start Christina and I clicked immediately, and I was so thrilled she chose me to be their wedding planner. Their day was nothing short of perfect. From the weather, to the colorful floral that played so well with the venue, to the amount of love in the air coming from family and friends who flew in to celebrate the couple. There were so many special moments that stood out. Christina decided to do a first look with her Jr. Bridesmaids that had everyone tearing up. We then moved to a private first look where Tim and Christina shared a special moment exchanging vows. One of my favorites was Christina dancing with her Grandpa Pino during the reception. Honorable mention goes to their bridal party for busting out fatheads on the dance floor. Establishing a preferred pricing range for your design elements is crucial for saving your sanity. 1.) Decide how much of your full wedding budget can be allotted for your design pieces. 2.).Confirm what's included from your venue. 3.) Prioritize what design elements mean the most....specialty linens, florals, rentals, pipe & draping, ceiling installations, paper/ signage, upgraded plateware/glassware, etc. 4.) Release the design ideas/options that aren't important to you and start making decisions in the areas that you place high value.
