1) CHOSE A VENUE THAT YOU LOVE
Yes, your venue will serve as the foundation for your wedding day. Choose a place that simply makes you feel good when you walk the property. Think about the entire experience, how you felt upon arrival, the grounds that you walked, the overall views, the service, and the overall ambiance. Often, clients are “sticker shocked” by the price of their most desired venues, but guess what? If you choose a venue that you love, with lovely natural built-in features, you won’t have to spend a fortune transforming it.

2) LINENS
People tend to choose linens toward the end of the planning/design process when they should actually be the second thing you do once the venue is selected. Linens are the second major part of your foundation. Pick colors that work within the space and with your color scheme. Upgrading to floor length linens (meaning the table legs are covered) always give your reception a clean, polished, luxury look.

3) KEEP IT CLASSIC
Be cautious not to follow the current trends too heavily. The reason being, “trends” don’t often age very well. You don’t want to look back at your wedding one day and say “Wow, what was I thinking?” Now this doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate touches of fun trends, but when it comes to your overall design, “going classic” is always a safe way to build an overall beautiful and timeless look.

4) REPURPOSE BIG FLORAL PIECES
Pre-arrange with your florist and wedding planner to have your gorgeous large ceremony florals smoothly transported and reset into your reception during the cocktail hour. Yes, you can use the same floral arrangements, and your guests will never know.

5) LIGHTING
Yes, up-lighting, bistro lights, and tons of candlelight can completely enhance any space. Include candlelight everywhere and in unexpected places to create a luxury experience. Up-lighting your reception walls can transform your event and really help to set the mood.

"J. Starr was better than we could have ever imagined! Let me start by saying planning a wedding is no joke! When we got engaged and started talking about having our wedding the following year, I knew I needed help. I had introductory phone calls with 3 different wedding planners (and emailed a few more for pricing sheets) and J. Starr was a clear winner! It can be so intimidating starting the process when you haven’t planned a wedding before and when you haven’t been to a lot either, but talking with both Jennifer and then April for the first time was like sunshine and rainbows! I knew they were going to be great from the start! It is hard to put into words how much April did for us over the entire year we worked with her, but she is the sole reason we had such a beautiful wedding! And one we continue to get compliments on a month later! I have friends getting married and starting to plan who ask me what we did in certain parts of ours, or how we found certain vendors, because they want someone the same. And it was all April!! With every one of my questions answered and every detail executed, it was like she was planning our wedding but with the precision of if it were her own. She understood our vision and made sure we had vendors that did the same and went the extra mile to make it happen. Sidenote, we live out of the country 10 months out of the year for work, so with an exception of one week that I came back for food tasting, cake tasting, hair and makeup trial, and floral mock up (all which April helped me plan during that week) everything for us was done remotely! April scheduled/organized/grouped vendor calls all within a timeframe that worked for us overseas and around our lives here. She really made everything so so easy for us. I could probably write a novel titled “How Amazing April Is” but these are a few standout items she made possible for our wedding: We draped all the walls and ceilings in our venue. Not easy, not cheap. April went through at least 4 (that I know of) vendors before finding someone who could do it within our budget and to our liking!! This was a huge part of our vision!...(continued in the comments)

The summer slowdown in the Arizona Wedding Industry allows me a lot of time to think.

How do I want to grow?
What is the next step?
What are good shifts to lean into?
What changes do I want to make?
What is my professional purpose?
How can I truly help people?

Sometimes, when I'm in a season of deep thought, it feels hard to take the next step, I feel a bit paralyzed. I think that's because this industry feels like it requires everything to feel polished and heavily produced.

But yet, the beauty, the breakthroughs, and the growth is found in the unscripted, the messy, the life that happens in the in-between of the curated events.

So, my friends....I share this with you because maybe you need permission "just to be" right now, "just to feel" and "just to think."

Here's a few photos of a recent beach trip with my loved ones (my mom, dad, brother, husband & and kiddos). The sandy toes, sunsets, songs, the meals, and the simple moments spent together were really something special.

And yes, I did get stung by something on the beach, and I'm convinced that caused me to develop shingles....the good that came from it was another week of allowing my brain to slowdown & my body to rest.

But this time has allowed me to feel inspired. And I'm excited to keep growing the J.Starr Wedding Company to the next level.

Just a few words of wisdom and love from the J.Starr Team (in no particular order)~

1.) Please be timely with your responses. In order to do our jobs well, we need reciprocal communication. If you aren’t circling back with responses quickly when we're trying to secure vendors, we may lose them.

2.) Be open and honest. If you don’t understand something or need clarification, just ask. If we are going in a direction you don’t love, also tell us. We want you to feel seen & heard.

3.) Come with questions to meetings. Let's make sure you understand everything fully.

4.) Read your planning contract and know what what services are included/not included.

5.) Book our Preferred Vendors, they are preferred for a reason. They have earned our trust and heavily impact our ability to deliver you an exceptional experience.

6.) Use us as a soundboard. Let’s talk through ideas- we can help you understand how we can execute your ideas easily. This gives us the opportunity to discuss how much more time or money something might be and be to help you weigh your options. (Sometimes DIY ends up costing you more).

7.) Trust us as your hired professionals. While we will always respectfully listen to your ideas and input, hear us out too. Experience is everything, and we only have your best interest at heart.

8.) Have confidence in the process. There is a reason we focus on 1 or 2 vendors at a time.

9.) Review your wedding timeline, details sheet & and diagrams thoroughly. This information is the core of the wedding ex*****on.

10.) When in doubt on what should be next, look at your client checklist. (specific to )

11.) Utilize all of your resources. Budget tracker, meal count tracker, etc. (specific to )

12.) Limit how many people are involved in wedding meetings. Too many people = too many opinions.

13.) Be mindful of how many options you are asking for. Seeking quotes from multiple vendors from each category can be overwhelming and unnecessary.

14.) Have fun! We know planning a wedding is intense, but remember, you hired us to help you. Let's us help💕.

Can I tell you a secret? There's a lot more celebrating to be had in life after the wedding. While it may feel like the wedding is the "end all be all," I promise you it's not.

And this coming from a girl who put *everything* into my wedding 18 years ago. What I've since learned is that the wedding is just the beginning.

There's so much more to celebrate in life! And guess what? Future celebrations are also easier. There's less pressure, fewer people involved, and fewer expenses.

So my friend, if you're currently feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders right now as your wedding date draws closer or perhaps your wedding day is over and you're feeling some post wedding blues....please know life has so much ahead for you.

These humans sitting at this table are the very core of my heart, and while my wedding day is something I'll always cherish, so is the "Florals & Monster Truck" Birthday Party we hosted this past Sunday for my mama & my little boy.

Life is what you make it. Celebrating comes in many forms, I promise 🤍.

Two things the J.Starr Wedding Company is known for is being personable and professional. As we slowly start to enter our summer slowdown, I'm committed to getting back to basics by putting myself ( my mug) and my heart back into the mix a bit more.

You see, the past four years have been absolutely b a n a n a s. The pandemic caused all our weddings to shut down, and the aftermath was the wedding boom.

Now, things have somewhat normalized, and here we are, wiser than before, more appreciative to work in an industry we love, and wondering what's next?

For me, it's going to be getting back to where it began. The desire to truly help humans enjoy life's most special moments with ease, understanding, and compassion.

What type of head table do I personally prefer?

Yes, a sweetheart table (a table that just seats the couple). Reason being....
1.) It gives you a little bit more alone time together on your very busy day.
2.) It allows guests to come to YOU for a visit, rather than you feeling the need to do table visits.
3.) Aesthetically, I prefer the look of a smaller table with a big impact, rather than a big table full of people where the newlyweds get lost (visually).

"Hillary and Kyle’s wedding day took place at the beautiful Arizona Biltmore. For their ceremony, the baby's breath floral columns added a touch of elegance to the ceremony, and the views of the Phoenix mountains provided a breathtaking backdrop. The gold room was the perfect setting for the reception, with its elegant and regal ambiance. The gold linens on the tables added a touch of glamour, and the floral centerpieces were a beautiful combination of white roses, hydrangeas, and greenery.

The black and white checkered dance floor was a hit with the guests, and it provided the perfect space for the couple's first dance, which was a magical moment. The warm glow of the candlelight added to the romantic ambiance, and the night was filled with laughter, dancing, and love. The grand exit lined with cold sparks leading to their GTO was the perfect ending to a beautiful day. Our wedding day was one of the calmest and most peaceful days of my life, and that would not have been possible without Jennifer and her team running all the logistics on the backend of our big day. I knew I could lean on her and trust that we and our guests were in good hands. Our wedding day was a dream. There were so many moving pieces and logistics and things we did the customize the day, and the fact that we got to bask in love and joy while the Jstarr team executed flawlessly was priceless. April gave us the wedding of our dreams!

"Deciding to work with J Starr for our wedding on March 11, 2023, was the best investment we made for our wedding! We were blessed to work with April throughout our entire wedding planning process. Jennifer (the owner) is so sweet and has built an incredible team and knew what she was doing when pairing us with April for our big day! We decided to utilize full service planning since my husband and I have demanding jobs and had minimal extra time to plan.
April made the process so easy, fun, and memorable! We truly got to enjoy each meeting, step, and decision, and it was truly because of April. From day 1, April made us feel like our wedding was the only event she was planning for the entire year and gave us her full undivided attention every time we spoke, had a vendor meeting, or I needed to share my thoughts from pinterest inspo. She was open to all of our wild ideas, extremely organized, provided insight, feedback, and recommendations that brought our entire vision to life ever more beautifully than we could have imagined. I felt so comfortable to fully trust her with every aspect and detail of our planning,and that means ALOT when you're a type A perfectionist. We have grown so close to April and are in awe of her talents and how wonderful of a human she is! She is more of a family friend to us than just our wedding planner. The day before our wedding, April had a medical emergency, and her team came together to make sure that our rehearsal day went perfectly! Her wonderful assistant, Adriana, organized our rehearsal. On the day of our wedding, not only was April able to be there with us for the big day, but she had the support of Jennifer, Adriana, and Chelsea from their team to make sure everything ran smoothly. It was amazing to see how close their team is and how much they not only care about their clients, but also each other. You will not regret working with Jennifer, April,or any planner on their entire team as they are flawless, invested in your dream vision, and truly have a passion for what they do. S p e c i a l A n n o u n c e m e n t:
This beautiful face assisted me on our first ever nearly 13 years ago. Before that, we were dear friends~ standing up in each other's weddings, and we even lived together as roommates in college. Yes, Melissa always had *best* hair products, cutest nightstands, and the biggest heart.

This girl and I have some history, and let me tell you, she's one of the top humans in my life who has endlessly cheered me on through many ups and downs~ especially with my wild wedding business.

Melissa genuinely cares for her people. Over time, I've witnessed her cheer on our fellow , connect naturally with our vendor & venue partners, and love on clients effortlessly.

In fact, at one of our many , I watched Melissa give her actual shoes to a bride whose feet were in pain. Melissa wore the painful heels so that our bride could spend the rest of her wedding night in Melissa comfortable flats.

As I ended 2023, I felt a need. The company needed more care. I felt as the owner, by capacities only allow much so much time. And I knew as we continued to grow that I needed someone to help me.

Ladies & Gentlemen, please allow me to officially introduce you to our J.Starr Care Coordinator: Melissa Bailey!!

Yes, our very own Melissa (in addition to continuing to be a Lead Planner) has taken on the very needed role of the J.Starr Care Coordinator. Melissa will be taking over many tasks to ensure that the J.Starr Wedding Company prioritizes how our team, clients, venues, and vendors are cared for. Her role is integral in moving the company forward to continue growing, yet not losing the personal touch that makes us who we are.

I'm so excited for Melissa to take on this role and can't think of another human on the earth to excel at the role!!!

We cannot recommend HEATHER and the entire J. Starr team enough! I truly do not know how we would have pulled off our wedding without Heather. It certainly would have been a lot less fun and a lot more stress. Heather had a way of putting us at such ease the moment we first talked to her. We felt like she really listened to and understood our priorities for our wedding and she did everything possible to ensure we had the day we dreamed of. We live out of state so were planning our wedding from afar, and Heather was so patient on countless long Zoom calls going over every detail and addressing or calming every worry that I had. It really felt like we were talking to a friend who also just happened to be the most organized, intuitive, proactive, creative, honest, genuine, thoughtful, FUN wedding planner ever. Leading up to, the day of, and after our wedding, so many of our friends and family commented on how awesome Heather was and how seamlessly everything ran because of her. She was so personable with everyone, anticipating our needs and taking care of any potential issues before we were ever aware.

It is so clear how much Heather and Jennifer and the entire team at J. Starr love what they do. The resources they provided to us during planning were so valuable - the preferred vendor list, timeline, checklist, etc. kept us on track and put us in touch with vendors who provided the same level of quality service that J. Starr did. What is also clear is how respected J. Starr is by other vendors in the area, everyone we hired expressed to us what positive experiences they have had with the J. Starr team and how excited they were to work with J. Starr again.

It is not an overstatement to say that choosing J.Starr and Heather was 100% the best decision we made when it came to planning our wedding. During the planning process and even to this day, two months after our wedding, when we look back on the day, my husband and I express to one another how grateful we are to have had Heather as part of our wedding planning experience. Our celebration was exactly what we had envisioned - so fun, stress-free and beautiful and we have Heather to thank for it.

"Maddie & Devon's wedding day was an absolute dream come true! They had a clear vision for their day from the first meeting at McCormick Ranch Golf Club. It was such a joy to work with both Maddie and Devon to plan it all. We transformed the Pavilion with white drapery and florals for the ceremony and the most epic floral arch, and then a transformation happened again into the reception. It all was just incredible - the florals, the drapery, the signage, the couple! We teamed up with the best of the best who all delivered perfection for our couple. Once the lights came down, the party was ON! Maddie & Devon wanted to feel like they were at the club and Tyler with Engage Entertainment delivered.
