Ask anyone in my house how I react when we go too many days back-to-back without slowing down and connecting over dinner…I’m not a happy Mama!

Growing up, we ate around the table every night. It was such an important time of bonding and sharing the highs and lows of our day. But fast forward 30 years and so many of us feel tempted to put that importance aside because life is demanding us to be at business meetings, practices, events, or the like.

This is a reminder to us all that we must not forget this simple yet powerful way to strengthen bonds within our families so it keeps us strong for years to come—

Put away the phones.
Turn off the TV.
Clean off the table.
Break bread together.

What would you tell a kindergartner? That they shouldn’t keep showing up to school because they don’t know the same information as a Senior graduate? Of course not. A kindergartner is a “beginner” and their education is a process. So is any new endeavor that you are or I attempt to try. But why do we give ourselves a different level of expectation?

We shouldn’t.

If it is unfamiliar territory to you, you are beginner. And if you are a beginner make sure it comes with a heavy dose of grace and time, because if we want to succeed it will require all of those things. Most importantly, learning from our failures.

Knowing this, what do you have to lose? You are a beginner at it, so take a small step and learn as you go!

Having children ranging from first grade to junior in high school, people could argue that childhood friendships lessen with age. This is a reminder it is not true! If you foster the friendship from an early age, and never let up, you will see your kids have friendships that they lean on for support and love all the way through high school (and beyond)!

Key principles:
-Don’t allow negative talk towards one another, and if you overhear it, use it as a learning opportunity to practice working through conflict with love.
-Create ample opportunities where everyone is at home so they have time to connect and create friendships with one another
-Be a good model to them. If you are investing in your spouse or your siblings/family it is a powerful example to them.

Stop putting pressure on yourself to feel like every day should be perfect. It’s actually pretty rare that you will have a day that works seamlessly, and if you do, relish in those days!

If you can accept that average, ordinary days will come with roadblocks, tempting moments or discouragement, that’s completely normal!

Ultimately, how we react to these moments will determine the outcome of our day and even bigger, our lives. We choose positivity!

I am amazed at how much the kids value this tradition. This morning the kids kept saying they had nothing to do. I remembered how much they played with Legos earlier this fall, but the room where is piled up with clutter and Legos tossed everywhere.After spending a few minutes straightening things up, I could see their eyes light up! In a matter of minutes, they were already thinking about different things they would create.It makes me think about how much does applies to adults as well. NEED A BOOST? This works for me 99.9% of the time. When I fee unmotivated I literally get up off the couch, walk to the kitchen oven and set the timer.
