Tango is essentially walking with a partner to the music. Dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed of a Tango is extremely important. Lindy—Rhythm in Motion: Join us in August for a topics class exploring musicality, rhythm, and creative partnership with live piano accompaniment! We will be drawing inspiration from swing era and modern piano arrangements to inform our choices and learning from our accompanist – our third instructor – on how they approach the music and the dance, and how they think about practice. We’ll be joined by Adam Hicks, Tim Christopher, and Shane Allen, who each have a unique relationship to dancing lindy hop in addition to their piano background. Over the three weeks, we will dig into different Swing rhythms as well as explore how to reflect the overall structure and groove of the music in our dancing, spending some time with polyrhythms, syncopation, and break steps as well as feeling out different grooves by following the same song through many eras.
