What is West Coast Swing?
West Coast Swing is a smooth, modern swing dance with roots in Lindy Hop. It is danced to almost every kind of music including R&B, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Blues. It is a partner dance of personal expression for both lead and follow, allowing you to style it funky, jazzy, slinky, or swingin’. Known for its fun rhythm changes and improvisation, this is a great dance to have in your social repertoire.

Dancing never takes a day off! Come out for Salsa classes and our weekly Salsa Practica with DJ Sparks to work on your steps or even just for some fun dancing! Social dancing from 8:15-10:30pm

Century Ballroom’s Salsa Practica was started over 15 years ago to support students’ learning, by giving them a casual environment where they could work on their moves.

It turned out to be very popular, and students and experienced dancers alike enjoy the less crowded floors. The earlier start time is also a plus for many.
There is no lesson, and all are welcome at this dance.

Join us Friday, January 31 for Masquerade XV: “Rebels & Rock Stars” Masquerade Ball! The best variety dance imaginable: a 4-hour evening featuring the award-winning Joy Street Orchestra, with Rockin’ Rafe Wadleigh, Piano Monster Steven Flynn, Blues Harpist J.D. Hagopian, chanteuse Dina Blade and Songbird Lucia Neare — plus a surprise opening act.

Dance to Swing, R&B, 50s Rock ’n’ Roll, West Coast Swing, Latin, Pop, Waltzes of all tempos, Blues and more.

This year’s theme is “Rebels & Rock Stars.” If you like it, run with it. If not, then do something else. Everyone’s welcome on Joy Street, costume or not.

Remember the only rule: To enter, everyone needs a mask, and you must wear it until the ceremonial “unmasking.” (Some masks available at the door for $5.)

Join us Saturday, January 18 when we’re partnering with Q***rchata Seattle for a fun and sweet time dancing in community! Whether you’re an experienced dancer or just starting, this event is open to all skill levels. Q***rchata’s instructors will guide you through a beginner-friendly Bachata class to teach you the fundamentals. Don’t worry if you’ve never danced before, we are excited to meet you!
Bachata class 6-7PM
Social dancing 7-10PM

About the class:
The class starts with a shines (footwork) warm-up, followed by partner dancing. We will be switching partners often, so you’ll get a chance to experience different styles and connections, and meet other dancers. We offer variations of each move so dancers of all levels can be engaged.

Join us Friday, January 17th for OutDancing, one of the longest running nights for the LGBTQ social dance community in Seattle and certainly the largest floor to spin around on! We’ll have TWO ROOMS of dancing this month!
There’s dancing for everyone: Salsa, Swing, Country, Waltz, Tango, Disco, West Coast Swing, you name it - mixing in some “non-partner” dance music just to shake your b***y to. There’s a beginning partner dance lesson followed by a line dance lesson; each month is a different dance so you can try something new.
Join us on the 3rd Friday and see what it’s all about.

We have expanded OutDancing to two rooms!
Join us as we fill West Hall with Line Dancing with our friends from Rain Country Dance Association. One cover gets you in both rooms!

On January 16th, 1938 Count Basie took on Chick Webb in the Battle of the Bands at the world-famous New York hotspot, the "home of happy feet": Harlem's Savoy Ballroom. At the time, Basie’s band featured a young Billie Holliday while Webb’s band featured the vocals of a young Ella Fitzgerald. As if that’s not enough, that same night, Benny Goodman’s Orchestra debuted as the first swing band to play Carnegie Hall.
Swing dancers to this day consider January 16, 1938 to be one of the greatest nights in jazz and swing dance history!

In honor of this historic event, Shuffle Club is featuring a night of music from these three legendary bands, and even some live recordings from that night from DJs Peter Flahiff and Lauren Smith! Come out Tuesday, January 14, don your best vintage-inspired looks, and get ready to swing to these inspirational tunes!

After 28 years, Century Ballroom will be closing its doors. We weren’t great at merchandising over the years, so we decided it was time to create something that you can wear all over the world as you take to the dance floors.

Sales will help fundraise for the ballroom. Choose from a pullover hoodie and a zip hoodie, (you must click on the picture on the right side to choose which you want.)
This selling page will be live for only a couple of weeks. (With a two weeks turn around time, people should be able to get their orders by the end of January.)
