Timothy White Eagle has an upcoming performance in mid-November at On the Boards (lower Queen AnneThe show is titled Indian School and covers his Grandfather’s experiences at the Phoenix Indian School as well as his own experience being given up for adoption and raised in white culture.
There are sliding scale and free to native folks tickets available through box office. Please check out the show, and support indigenous artists!

On volunteer Monday we harvested Makah Ozette Potatoes and corn. Planted a cedar down in the greenbelt, placed flags at all the mushrooms we could find and worked on clearing space for a future Oak/Camas prairie. Come by any Monday 10am-2pm to see what’s happening 💚

Thank you to all of the volunteers who showed up for Indigenous Peoples Day! Tending to the land and gathering to honor the people who have been here since the glaciers receded! It is Indigenous Peoples day every day and we are so grateful to folks who could lend a helping hand yesterday. Many of whom are real renters! ❤️please note that every Monday 10am -2pm Herons Nest is open to volunteers. We stand in solidarity with Palestine, Sudan, Hawaii, Aoteora, indigenous peoples of the Amazon rainforest, all of Turtle Island and beyond. Rematriate the land, heal the earth and eachother ! ❤️🌈💚 and thank you to Frances .clay.cauldron and for feeding our volunteers!

Oct. 12th is a fall planting and prep work party at Herrings house park across the street from the Duwamish Longhouse. Oct. 19th Duwamish Alive will be taking place at Herrings House park. Learn about the five species of Salmon that have returned to the Duwamish River and the efforts to make it a healthier place for them. brought up a great group from today before doing a paddle tour around Kellogg island. Veggies are being harvested and flowers are in bloom. We can feel the seasons beginning to change up here. This month and last hosted a few boat operators trainings to help with water sample collection along the Duwamish River. These water samples are collected at pipes that drain into the river. These water samples help out when groups like take big corporations to court for violating environmental laws and polluting our waterways. We are still hosting volunteer Mondays from 10am -2pm come by to help out or just to chill and check out the land.

Since we welcomed 8 chickens to Herons Nest it was time to get some feed and add some finishing touches to their coop. We secured a water safe and rat proof space for chicken feed and scratch. Patched a hole and added more hinges and a second latch to their door. Alternator needed changing on the herons nest van that is used at events and by the . Flowers are still in bloom, and we got our first eggs. The chickens feel right at home. Eggs will be freely distributed with our seasonal veggie bundles. You can come by for free egg pickup Mondays at volunteer days 10-2pm

Announcement! This Saturdays market has been cancelled as well as the third Saturday in September. We have had very low attendance. That being said, volunteer Mondays are always a great way to come up and connect with the land and see what’s happening up here! 10am-2pm you can find and or Farmer J on site and see how you can help out :)

Thanks to the land for producing and healing. Thanks to volunteers for helping remove garbage and mend soils for healthy food growth and thanks to Farmer J and for spreading the seeds and showering them with love! This is the first year after remediation the herons nest has been able to provide free healthy vegetables and fruits to the Duwamish tribe and surrounding community.
