I’m not clear on how to show up today, as the feelings of this grief is dynamic-and has been ever present for some time.

I’m here to hold space with my community that needs to be seen + held + supported. Allowing stories, fears, tears to be witnessed while encouraging each of us to reemerge with power, inspiration + commitment to community care + liberation. We absolutely all have gifts to share + through the individual, hyper-local action is how we impact the collective.

I know this America, looking nice enough from the outside yet with the foundation built on stolen land, fueled by the patriarchy, billionaires + a two party system that doesn’t care for the people, but the power.

And she continues to break my heart.

And may these breaks in my heart let the light in, fuel both my desire + capacity to witness, affirm, celebrate + fight for the folks I love, and have yet to know I love. . . And allow for expansion of what new worlds can look like.

We LOVE being able to photograph events that create positive impacts, especially those rooted in social change. Events that contribute to social justice, educating folks on the systems of oppression, and then introduce avenues for sustainable change. It's an incredible gift to be able to capture the energy around these events, and help the orgs we do convey the love, support, and impacts they make. For instance - invited the phenomenal Journalist and Author, to speak about implications of caste for our nation, our local community, and reminded us of our personal responsibilities to tending to the historical wounds. This event was facilitated by very own , and augmented by @ of .co A major metaphor related to housing equity + the critical restorative work we must do as a nation, was when buying an old house, we must tend to/restore all the neglect, and the cracks in foundations... We may not have been responsible in the making of them, but we are the stewards of the old house now, and it's our responsibility to offer repair and restoration. The event closed with a communal chorus of This Little Light of Mine. The energy was magic, the impact... almost to great to measure just yet. Thank you, Homestead, for including us in capturing the energy while telling the story of your mission through our lens.

There have been LOADS of inquiry around whether or not Diwas and I will be leading this next Travel with a Local in Nepal tour recently. And the answer is - Yes, early 2025! AND... truth be told, we have a complicated relationship with social media, therefore have NOT been marketing as we "should". And if we dare not market/share what we're doing, there's no way for us to "fill" this tour with exactly the right folks. Sooooo....

Coming back to our WHY, leading from the heart, it feels important to share our vision is to offer this small group tour annually. Building a sustainable bridge between the PNW + Nepal so our kids can know their heritage by being raised part-time in Nepal: attending school, being immersed in a collective culture and so much more. So much more.

The idea of opening ourselves up for more private tours, retreats, customized experiences has surfaced ... and is an idea we're playing with. What do ya'll think? What would YOU like to see offered?

Sharing photos today from last month's Town Hall Seattle's event with Eighth Generation stakeholders... I haven't written the blog YET, but I do want to share the magic, beauty, sustainability factors and the inspiration that these Native creators through this 8th Generation brand bring to art + lifestyle in the PNW and beyond. It was so lovely to have artists showing their wares, sharing their foods, highlighting their efforts + wisdom. Here's to making commitments to consistently learn more about the Indigenous/First Nation people here in the US- to mimic the stewardship of this land, not their artistry. Check them out: https://eighthgeneration.com/pages/about-us

Just a little bit of pretty picture sharing today... filled with love, joy + pups for ya'll. I think it's important to enjoy the goodness in contrast to lots of bits of hard reality these days.

It has been a week, ya'll. There are so many aspects of life that are just such a struggle to move through understanding... because the grief is simply unsurmountable. And, for us, nestled in our little bubble, life here in the PNW keeps moving on. I continue to have a practice to seek the glimmers... you know, where the cracks in life let light in... and pry them open so a bit of joy can pour out.

Being creative entrepreneurs, we get to witness some beautiful things... and we have the best clients. Many of them create spaces of inclusion, care, community as a way to demonstrate their appreciations and do their part to bring joy, too. So today (and everyday) I practice taking the time to relish in the bits + bobs of joy for the mothers, the children, the communities who cannot... is an act of resistance.

Once upon a time, we gave our photography services to everything that struck our heart-cords... and learned, that was not a sustainable way to do business. We've since revised our "events" pricing structures and have opted to doing a few pro-bono/passion project type photography things when we can, with the rest of them more of a sliding scale/low-bono. One of the magical events we contributed to was an elementary school fund-shifting project via West Seattle Public School Equity Fund - and the West Seattle Blog covered this story... and I wanted to share here. Super proud of this work- as being an Advisor from my kiddos school, and then stepped in to support the board - what a rewarding experience which couldn't have been possible without the hands + hearts of the individuals within the schools/community/organizations (looking at you Neighborhood Development Association and for Education. Together, we work to move the needle in creating more equitable environments for all of our kids. We know this isn't THE answer -but it IS a conduit to change. https://westseattleblog.com/2024/08/fundshifting-success-and-opportunities-ahead-for-west-seattle-public-school-equity-fund-we-have-strengthened-all-our-schools/
