The first day we met (photo on left), I felt this unbelievable warmth and instant acceptance from you and Mon.

I keep flashing back to your voice on the end of the line when you called to get directions to suprise Scott when we first started botanicale.

I have so much more to say but so exhausted and struggling with migraines… so I’ll leave it here for now.

Guess what’s missing from our first look photo and why?

The answer is my fresh flower bouquet.

My cascading bridal bouquet was STUNNING and oh-so perfectly ME with houseplants, tropicals, and the Crown Jewels: pastel grey and tangerine orchids.

You could see the veining in them and I couldn’t wait to get bridal party shots with them.

They were hand delivered in a vessel so they’d be drinking water right up until we needed them before the ceremony.

We were warned that the specialty orchids would bruise super easily so we avoided handling them during the first look. We literally took them out right before the ceremony and we had an evening wedding in November in Taipei.

Sadly, we never got detailed shots of them because by the time we got to the ceremony, my pastel tangerine orchids were floppy, limp and wouldn’t stand on their own (that’s what she said) 🤣

It’s funny now that I’m writing about it… but it was honestly such a bummer to spend hundreds on a bouquet that I absolutely adored, and never have it photographed.

It honestly made me really really sad because I love those orchids, and I even brought a preservation kit from Seattle to preserve them…

But as one of my customers told me a few weeks ago, preservation florals doesn’t even look the same!

So many brides are now turning to silks for the same reason.

I have so much respect for florists and recommend them for certain items… Florists know what’s in season, what hardy stems will stand up to temperatures, & need to figure out what to keep the stems hydrating for a while… But even with the most experience, it’s inevitable that fresh blooms will eventually look sad within a few hours.

At the time, I only thought to make my wedding arch and wished I had made a bouquet for myself.

My wedding is done and gone, but I’m happy that I had that experience, although bittersweet, because now I can share my experiences and learnings with my clients.

Good news is a lot of photographers understand the fleeting nature of florals and take detailed shots while your makeup is getting done, so it’s not typically an issue in the US.
