It is that time again. Picnic on the Canal. This Sunday October 5th from 3pm-6pm

Celia and I have been watching the weather closely, and have decided that Sunday is the day to choose! After this beautiful and much needed rain, we want to plan a picnic party in the sun. I am entitling our menu - Fall : Full Send.

Like all the picnics before, this is a meal for two people, and includes a bottle of wine selected by Celia. Bring your chairs, blankets, and friends on down to the sunny Fremont canal which is only steps from .

Picnic box for two includes:
Half of a marinated and smoked chicken with end of summer grilled vegetables

Warm pumpkin and squash soup with homemade walnut bread

Crunchy salad greens with ginger dressing, creme fraiche, basil, and butter-roasted chestnuts (dressing will be on the side)

Cinnamon sugar donut muffins with apples

And a bottle of WINE. Choose from red, white or sparkling and Celia will curate something delicious.

Last week we hosted our Italian courtyard feast . This has been a dream of mine for years. After working in Rome and falling in love with a large communal dining space in an outdoor square, I couldn’t help but see the possibility . Nestled in the heart of Capitol Hill, this quiet space off the street is a gathering space for businesses, visitors, and creative art. It was only natural that I begged Ezra to let me spill outside, long into the night, making simple food that nourishes. Ezra is always an enthusiastic “yes” when I come to him with my harebrained ideas, so beg isn’t exactly the right word. But, I was excitedly desperate to host this meal before summers end, and 40 of you sold it out pretty quick. Thanks to and for all of your work, and of course Karel, Theo, and the man who unlocks the door, Ezra Wicks. This night of friends and neighbors, as summer ends, won’t be forgotten by me soon.

Heavily roasting carrots, smoking them, grilling them, coal roasting them, charring them - we love abusing these delicious little dudes with fire. Carrots somehow always taste better with a little blackening. (My favorite is to roast, then smoke, then mix with a black garlic vinaigrette. I swear it’s the best carrot you’ve ever had). Don’t fear the flame!🔥

A wonderful weekend on Vashon island camping at .alyssum.farm and enjoying a night kayaking tour with . We had perfect weather, a jelly fish bloom, head-lamp led kayaks, cider tasting , epic dinners with Island grown ingredients cooked by and , ghost stories by the fire, popsicles, 6:30am sunrise walks, and lots of townie adventures. Can’t wait to see these folks again, and we’re already planning the next Vashon outing. Forgotten Skills Tour, anyone?
