Seattle City Light is the steward of the Georgetown Steam Plant. City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable, and environmentally responsible power to about 750,000 Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utilit

Ever wondered what that massive trunk is, departing from the top of the turbines? It’s actually not original to it! It was added to help vent and cool the turbines as engineers were discovering that having the steam turbine under the generator in the vertical layout was overheating the generator. In the later, horizontal turbine layout, they added this venting in from the start; in tunnels under the floor!
