A rare behind the scenes capture of me, going to great heights (or me reaching for the stars—take your pick) for Izzy and Jesse’s May wedding.

In this picture I’m transforming wagon wheel chandelier that hangs over the dance floor into a moody, smoke bush filled cloud complete with twinkly lights for the late night party. More to share soon from this magical wedding!

A gorgeous May wedding for Jen and Sam.

I loved this wedding because all the flowers were locally grown (, , , , ) a perfect Snapshot of Sonoma County in May. Also the couple was the sweetest, and I did my darndest to capture their style, personalities and look into each of the floral elements.

I’m especially in love with her bouquet, filled with ruffly sweet peas, garden roses, dogwood and clematis. I can’t tell you the number of times I visited my clematis plants, hoping they’d bloom just in time for their wedding—and they did!!! Plus the dogwood that I found at the local nursery, the absolute perfect color.

Who wore it better?

Obviously, my grubby attire does not compare to this gorgeous bride! I love how her bouquet came together, and how it complemented Jen’s personality, dress, and style. It was one for the books, especially creating for a fellow Jen.

Roses, clematis and other assorted prized goodies from us, and the most perfect sweet peas ( that color!!!) from .

Getting wedding photos back is the best! Hours and hours of thought was put into this January wedding, not only in the floral design, but also on sourcing to make sure Brittani’s bouquet was made with 100% Sonoma grown flowers and foliage. Luckily farmers like .side.farm.flowers are the best and had local blooms available!

Quite a challenge for a late January wedding, but it was miraculously possible and I love how it turned out, especially for the gorgeous bride .louise

My goal was to finish prunning by the end of January and we’re 95% of the way there! These clippers are certainly getting a workout.

February is all about cleaning up the debris, adding compost and amendments, doing some dormant spraying, mulching, and planting new roses as they arrive.

Garden Roses.

The undeniably most romantic, timeless flower there is.

Looking back at pictures like this from previous brides helps me get motivated to prune the roses to create lots of lush blooms for our future couples.

Rose pruning.
You either love it or hate it.

For me, the process is kind of like cleaning my car. I for one hate it but sure love the end result! So a love/hate relationship perhaps?

If you’re still reading, bear with my analogy of rose pruning to car cleaning…

At first, you take out the obvious pieces that need to go like the sweatshirts and water bottles (in this analogy, the long rose canes cut down by about 2/3). It already looks better. But then you know you still have to reach under the car seats and dig down there on your hands and knees and pull out that unidentified, petrified object from six months ago (in this case, the crisscrossed, dead and/or dying rose canes, old leaves and more). You just got to do it and take out all the junk so your car/rose bush has a clean start to the season.

Lastly, you step (or crawl because you’re on your hands and knees while rose pruning) back, admire your work, and move onto the next rosebush.

It’s all worth it though so we have beautiful, healthy roses for our wedding couples and florists come spring!

One of my favorite photos of the year!

The way captured the light and grace reminds me of the famous painting, Girl with a Pearl Earring. Yes I know the bride isn’t looking at the camera, her head’s not covered, her bridal bouquet is in her hand, and I’m not sure if she is wearing pearl earrings… But it’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw this picture.

Swipe to see for yourself.
