They had masters’ degrees in all sorts of musical things. Rigorous practice was not just suggested, it was a requirement. Their teaching philosophy was to push a student as hard and as far as they could. I admit that (musically speaking) much of what I am today I owe to those lessons. However I’d like to think that I’ve adopted a slightly different teaching style than that of my childhood teachers

. I've come to understand that every student has different goals and musical aspirations. I've found that students are more likely to excel at the guitar if I am to guide them in exploring their own interests rather than imposing my musical preferences on them. In this, my students are able to establish a lifelong relationship with the guitar, instead of losing interest after a season, because I make it about their passion for music, not mine. And so I find myself teaching a wide variety of students, both on the acoustic and the electric guitar. There are the not yet famous rock stars, the studious classical and jazz enthusiasts, the folk guitarists who just want to sing some songs, and those workaholics who use guitar lessons as therapy or as a way to relax after a long day at the office. Whether you just want to pick up the guitar as a hobby or if you want to make it your lifestyle, this is the place to be.

Two of the young children involved in this accident are students of mine. They escaped with relatively minor injuries, but their family members have sustained horrific trauma. Their mom broke both of her legs and shattered her shoulder. Both of the grandparents require surgery. 3 uncles have broken face bones, pelvis bones etc. It's hard to put the devastation into words. I don't normally make posts like this here, but please PRAY, Share, and Give 🙏🙏🙏

Eric was a student of mine. He passed away very unexpectedly earlier this week. Please keep his wife and kids in your prayers. For a year or so, he had sat quietly in the back of the studio while I taught his daughter. Little did I know I was teaching him too. He would go home and practice all of the things I was teaching to her, and he did well! Eventually he would stand in for a lesson here and there when she was busy. I quickly realized that he was quite serious about it. It was self evident that he was putting in the work at home and reaping the benefits. Teaching Eric made me feel wonderful. I could tell that playing guitar was making him feel alive. There was a twinkle in his eyes when we were playing music together and I will miss that deeply.
