We know, kind of a long post but also we believe very informative and important. . . . .
This Saturday, December 6th will be another opportunity for our community to do some "shining". First off, Seymour's Historic Owen Theatre will be presenting some FREE movies. This is a tradition started by Harold Owen back in the 1960's and we are trying to carry it forward. We will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until about 3:00 PM or so. Note that the times are approximate due to slight variations in start and stop times. You can come to one or all of the showings. Again, the admission is free and we have typical movie concessions available.
This will also be the Seymour Community's Hallmark Christmas event. There will be food trucks, different vendors, and community organizations set up around the downtown square. We encourage you to visit the vendors and food trucks but also to check out some of our hometown places and organizations as well. If a coffee-based drink strikes your fancy you should visit Old Depot Coffee Co. right off the northwest corner of the downtown square. Perhaps you might like a family friendly place to get a soft drink or a local brew (or mead), you should check out Axeheadbeverageco which is due north of the Owen Theatre on the north side of the square just a couple of buildings east from City Hall. Additionally, if the food truck fare is not what your taste buds are craving, a short distance from the square you have the option of some great BBQ, a couple of Mexican cuisine establishments, a place that specializes in Chinese meals, and the normal and usual franchise places, i.e. Subway, Casey's, Taco Bell, and McDonalds. Each of these establishments will appreciate your patronage. Remember, that is in addition to the locally-owned Hucklebuck's, Twin Dragon, El Pariso, and El Patron's. A NOTE that if you come early in the day or afternoon, you may well have the time, the appetite, and the opportunity to check out the food trucks and vendors who will be stationed around the square....you can "do it up right".
Your day can finish up with a Christmas Tree lighting at the Jimmy Crisp downtown square Memorial park and our night-time (in the dark) Christmas parade that will emphasize the Hallmark Christmas theme and local community floats that will embody it. It is also unique since it will be dark and most (really all) of the floats will feature different amounts and variation of Christmas lighting.
To see for yourselves, come out to downtown Seymour this Saturday, December 6th for several events and vendors that are family oriented, local, enjoyable, and finish it off with a very pretty night-time, Christmas-themed parade.
We truly hope you will join us for what can be a magical evening.
